Paul Kruse Case Summary
Paul Kruse grew up in a family that had limited means. When Kruse reached college, he studied theology and became a youth minister. Eventually, Paul would move out west and join his brother, Jonathan. Both brothers began selling mutual funds and insurance to military families, a job Paul became very success at; however in 2001, 20 years after starting his job, was fired. In 2010, after moving to Jacksonville, Florida, Kruse set up a company known as Yorkshire Financial Services and listed himself as a “safe money specialist.” Darlene again came to Kruse after her retirement. Paul convinced Darlene, a family friend, to invest in the stock market through his company. He stated through a letter that Yorkshire was a 30-year-old company that consisted of experts that were trained to beat the market, was safe for retirement investment and returns would range between 10 to 15 percent. After settling into his new shaped company, Paul offered Amy Weatherford, a single mother, a place to live with him rent-free as long as she could buy groceries and help around the house. Amy agrees and her …show more content…
Paul Kruse became accustom to the luxurious lifestyle he possessed when he lived out west selling mutual funds and insurance to military families. Being fired cut him off from living the life he was use to. When Paul moved to Jacksonville, Florida, I believe he looked to find the life that he knew so well out west. When being a financial advisor wasn’t enough, the creation of Yorkshire was a Paul’s ticket back into the good life. By taking money from investors and friends, such as Darlene Jones, Paul was able to afford the luxuries of new cars and other various things. I still question what made Paul become greedy and take from friends. I wonder if he became caught of in the wealthy lifestyle and became hungry to have more and

This was an example of a government agency rushing to be PC (politically correct). Additionally, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson were quick to put these boys in jail to resurrect their notoriety; furthermore, neither have apologized to this day. There was no evidence other than the late accusations of a drunken dancer. The media played the two universities against one another and was clouded by race. This indictment was politically motivated, since Mike Nifong was pursuing career advancement via election. North Carolina District Attorney Roy Cooper took over the case in January 2007 after the state bar association filed ethics charges against Mike Nifong for withholding exculpatory evidence and making inflammatory statements about the case…

Several examples of symbolism are represented in Cather’s story. For example, Paul often wears a red carnation on his shirt. These flowers represent Paul himself. Early in the story Paul wears a red carnation when he talks with his teachers. They see this as him being rebellious, and they would be correct in their assumption. We see the flowers again at the end of the story. By this time the weather is cold and Paul’s flowers have died. Also, Paul buries the flower in the ground before he jumps in front of the train. This is meant to briefly foreshadow that he is going to kill himself. Cather’s use of color is probably the strongest symbol in the story. Its affect on the mood of the characters is evident as well. We connect the color yellow with the fact that Paul cannot stand his home. He doesn’t like to think of returning to his room and staring at the yellow wallpaper. Later in the story, when Paul is at the hotel, he associates the color red to the man at the desk. He has a red face and a red mouth which are meant to give us a window into his former life. As in many stories, rich and wealthy people are often found wearing the color purple. He also orders purple flowers for his room at the hotel to feed his lie about being rich himself. Paul is represented by the colors blue and white. He obviously has some emotional issues and these show in his pale face. On the opposite end of the spectrum, white can be a positive color for him. Snow is often present when he is happy. Blue is much more popular than white in the story. The veins on Paul’s face are blue. Paul obsesses over the blue Venetian and the blue Rico, and listens to the Blue Danube. He also mentions a blue sea that he wants to be carried into. Paul talks about the theater being a “bit of blue-and-white Mediterranean shore,” and we’re also told he pictures the sea before he gets hit by the train. Food is also a popular symbol throughout “Paul’s Case.” The…

Set in Pittsburghin the early 1900s, the story depicts the dull and conformist overtones the Industrial Revolution and steel industry cast over the city. Carnegie had recently created his steel empire, employing most of the town in the steel mills to work long hours at monotonous jobs. Due to the long working hours combined with low wages, there was little time or money for cultural activities to develop. Despite these challenges, Carnegie was also a philanthropist and established many artistic venues with his wealth; (Hicks)Carnegie Hall being one of prevalence in the story and most well known today. Although these activities were generally only available for the social elite, their presence alone created aspirations and imagination material for the working class. Paul’s infatuation with this higher class and the privileges afforded to them was a major influence on his quest to find individuality.…

The main character, a challenging adolescent boy named Paul, has an almost inexplicable ability at irritating every person he comes in contact with. He finds his education trivial, a sense of superiority towards his peers, and a general distaste for everything in his suburban neighborhood on Cordelia Street. At first glance, Paul appears to be suffering from the typical adolescent angst. However, his actions and frame of mind are better defined by Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPR). Paul demonstrates several symptoms of this mental illness such as, “preoccupation with fantasies that focus on unlimited success, power, intelligence, beauty or love, the belief that he or she is “special” and unique, and can only be understood by other special people, envy of others or a belief that others are envious of him or her, and arrogant behavior and/or attitude” (Cleveland Clinic). In this paper, I will focus on how Paul’s character demonstrates certain symptoms of Narcissistic Personality Disorder, specifically the preoccupation with fantasies that focus on unlimited success, power, intelligence, beauty or love, the belief that he or she is “special” and unique, and can only be understood by other special people, and his arrogant behavior and attitude in relation to his love for New York and his hate for Pittsburg.…
