Paul Revere Paul Revere was born on Jan. 1, 1735 in Boston, Massachusetts. His parents were Paul Revere (Apollos Rivoire) and Deborah Revere. Paul Revere’s only sibling was Deborah. As a boy, Paul Revere went to an “Infant School” until he was 7 or 8. Then he changed schools and went to “North Writing” (an all boy school). When he was 15 his father died and he had to take care of the family. He took over the family business as a gold and silversmith. For extra money he took the job of a bell ringer for the Christ Church. Paul Revere also went to help the French and Indians in the French and Indian war. That November, Paul Revere went back to Massachusetts and married Sarah Orne. When Sarah died, Paul married Rachel Walker. All together Paul Revere had 12 children. Their names are Mary, Frances, Elizabeth, Isannah, Joshua, John, Joseph, Lucy, Harriet, John, Maria, and John. Paul Revere had to find more jobs to make enough money to support the family. His jobs were a gold and silversmith, he engraved portraits, produced bookplates, sold pictures, made picture frames, brought out hymnbooks, he became a dentist, and he made false teeth out of hippopotamus. He was so busy that sometimes he even forgot what he was doing. His involvements in the Revolutionary War were that he became a leader of “The Sons of Liberty”, printed a picture about the Boston Massacre, and his ride to that “The British are coming”. On December 16, 1773 he dressed up like an Indian and went and dumped 10,000 pounds of tea into the Boston Harbor. In the 1770s he printed a picture of British soldiers shooting the innocent people in Boston Harbor, and it got published and sent to the other 12 colonies. He also road to Cambridge, Watertown, Worcester, and to Hartford at midnight to warn the people that the British were coming.     Fights broken out between the American Patriots and the British Loyalists. A number of outrageous taxes were being placed on everyday supplies. The Stamp Acts placed taxes on printed documents including legal documents, licenses and newspapers. John Adams an American colonist wrote a resolution to get his other fellow colonist to protest against the act (Document 1).     He imported goods from England and ran a small hardware store until 1789. Revere opened the first copper rolling mill in North America. He retired in 1811 at the age of 76 putting his business in the hands of his sons and grandsons. According to www.biography.com he didn’t do any more major contributions to the American Revolution but he was respected for his work and charitiable contributions, including his involvement with Massachusetts. Revere’s involvement arose through his connections with members of local organizations and his business patrons set up a flame in the American Revolution with his contributions.
