I have been preparing for my future career all my life. Although my career choices have changed several times over the years, my desire to care for others has never changed. Children have always gravitated to me and me to them which led me to choose my career of becoming a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. I have researched and mapped out my pathway to achieving such a goal and I am very excited at what lies ahead.
I love helping people; especially children. As a little girl I would always help the people around me. As I grew older, the desire to help people grew stronger. This made my decision to become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner an easy one. My love for children has been shown in the care that I have given them over the years.
I have always sought opportunities to expand my skills to care for children or to pretend that I was already a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. My sophomore year in high school, I took the opportunity to borrow my mother’s lab coat and stethoscope for Career Day and explained my passion to my fellow classmates. Although I was pretending, I took career day seriously because I knew that it was not only about that day but it was about what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
Over the years, my family and I have lived in several places because my father is in the military. Japan was the most interesting place that we have lived and by far the best cultural learning experience that I have had. I learned diversity and how to be well rounded. Having this experience, taught me to respect others for their differences and have prepared me for what lies ahead.
The road to becoming a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner is not a quick one as there are steps that I have been taking to prepare me for this career. Some of the steps that I am currently taking is volunteering, researching different childhood diseases and maintaining an impressive grade point average. While finishing high school is at the top of my goal list, I have committed myself to being successful and my desire for reaching my ultimate goal is even stronger. I plan to attend a four-year college while volunteering in the pediatrics and/or neonatal intensive care unit at the local hospital. Upon graduating, I plan to obtain a position in one of those units as I gain the experience and apply for a dual Master’s/PhD Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program.
I am drawn to nursing and the care of others. I am especially drawn to caring for children. I am very passionate about nursing and will excel in my studies. I know that my compassionate spirit and willingness to help others will continue to shine through in my college coursework. I love to nurture, help, and care for children. This allows me to pair up my passion with my desire to become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.
