Have you ever had a nurse help you that is even better than the Call of Duty? Pediatric oncology nurses are there to help the ones that are fighting cancer and help them get treatment to fight it. Most patients are under 18, although some could be up to 21. The patients that pediatric oncology nurses work with are usually fighting some form of cancer or in remission. By being a nurse for kids, you have to be prepared to interact with the patient’s parents or guardian. With being a nurse you have to deal with the heartbreaks of the bad news and you will have to find a good and easy way to communicate with the patient’s family members.

By the start of 1970, two pediatric nurse practitioner programs have been a success specifically for pediatric oncology. Before radiation came along, surgery was the only treatment there was. Usually when someone went to a program to be a pediatric oncology nurse they wouldn’t just learn about how to care for children with cancer, it used to be much more than that. Most people would have to learn in general how to care for someone whether they just had the flu or if they had cancer. There were not many nurses or doctors that would take care of a patient that had a disease that only suited what they are educated for. With a computer, I will be taking notes and keeping information on a computer and knowing how to save information and store it properly on a computer is an easier way to help me stay organized. Every medicine, every problem and every thing you will need to know about that patient will be on those computers either outside of the patients’ room or at the front office of the unit.
There are many reasons on why I want to become a pediatric oncology nurse. First, there are many job opportunities. Hospitals are all around the U.S so no matter where you are at or if you decide to move it is very easy to find a job with your career choice. Most hospitals could always use another nurse. There will usually be some sort of clinic or hospital that could use a pediatric oncology Nurse at least an hour or two from where you live.
Second, nursing is something I have always wanted to do and be a part of. Knowing that you are helping someone and making a difference in someone’s life is a great feeling. I love to help people out and help people with their problems or situations. Every since I was little and seeing my mom go through school, going to work and hearing her stories has always had an affect on me. I love hearing the stories that my mom would tell me of how one of her patients were getting out and leaving today, just knowing that they have gotten better with the help of a nurse would
