In Jasmine Lopez’s persuasive essay video, the speaker was very well-spoken and kept her speech at a steady pace. I also liked how she would enunciate every word she spoke to make sure the audience was engaged and understood. Furthermore, the speaker’s opening line was relatable and provided a nice hook to start her speech. The speaker backed up her statements with factual data, which showed the audience that she was credible and passionate about her topic. As the speaker was saying agricultural terms, she made sure to define those terms.…

In my Speech 1 class, the class delivered informative speeches based on the topics students chose. Also, the class was assigned to do a peer evaluation and the student I had to evaluate was Emily. The specific purpose statement for Emily’s speech was “To inform my audience about Atrioventricular Canal Defect”, and her method of organization seemed to be topical, which is a good when informing your audience about a health problem. Also, the main points of her speech included: what is atrioventricular canal defect, what are the symptoms, and what are the treatment options. Although Emily’s speech had many strengths and weakness when it came to the content and delivery of her speech, overall she did a great job.…
I was impressed with Mary’s ability to present a very emotional and scary topic with a balanced tone of voice. Because she didn’t present emotion I was able to take in what she was saying even as she used various devices to get her point across and I felt this was very effective. At the end when she spoke to her children as the future of her cause was a tear jerker, and even if this wasn’t necessary, was a smart move to gain support for her cause. The underlying current of her whole speech was that with proper education and an…
The speaker was keen to use her body language to express herself fully. She seemed to have a relaxed mood, but not too relaxed to show that she was not serious. I think the speaker should have used diction and imagery so as to pass her message clearly. The speech was all about presenting the truth as it was, about women who strive to create change and get equality of human rights.…
Her speech is structured into four sections, she anticipates the opposition straight away, opening by explaining that she is not going to say what her listeners expect. She does this with a rhetorical question, and asks two questions one after the other to create interest for her audience. She then answers both questions with a one word sentence, ‘No.’ This therefore has impact, and shoots down any opposition or preconceived ideas of what she would say or think in one clear word. She explains as soon as she opens what she is setting out to say, ‘I am saying that…’…

Persuasive speeches have been the most challenging speeches in this class for me. The goal is to influence the belief of an audience, convincing them to choose a side. The first persuasive speech I done I was nervous for some odd reason. When it comes to informative speeches I can talk a lot, but it’s different with persuasive speeches. Gaining the attention of the audience enough to persuade them is the major key to a good persuasive speech. Speech 3 was the longest persuasive speech being four to six minutes and it seemed to be the longest. With persuasive speeches, you want to provide the audience with enough information so they’ll be able to choose a side, most likely the side you’re arguing for.…
A great strength she possesses is the ability to express emotion. Through her facial expressions and the various tones in her voice, it made the speech more interesting. The only thing I can think of that could use some work is just to look at the audience a little more. This was not a major problem.…

Although I am pleased with the positive reviews there are still things I need to work on for the next speech. One review stated “When he made a mistake, he got kind of stuck on it.” I take this as really good advice because I didn’t notice that it was happening. Some of the hang ups may have come from me talking a bit to fast. I had a couple reviews stating I was talking to fast. I will have to practice the pace of my speech in order to limit the mistakes. Also, work on not getting hung up on any mistakes I do make. There was one other review that stuck out to me because I didn’t realize I was doing it as well. It said “Some terms and rules were a little hard to follow” meaning that I had information in my speech that wasn’t a common knowledge term for the World Cup. In the future I will have to look through the words that don’t really get used on a basic level of the topic. Make the speech easier to follow with entry level…
