I selected a speech that was given by Manal- Al Sharif. The speech was entitled “A Saudi woman who dared to drive”. The speech was delivered sometime in June 2013. For instance, she confirmed that she is a Saudi Arabian woman who was detained for driving, in a nation where it was unacceptable for women to drive. By expressing this to the audience, her credibility scale rises higher, since her address is for women who drive cars in Saudi Arabia. She continued her address by talking about her personal experiences and family, to make the audience understand the importance of how ruthless the perception of women driving may be. Manal- Al Sharif used motivational and informative tone. The tone was intended to be motivational, neither happy nor sad, which was appropriate for the theme and setting of the address.
The speaker was keen to use her body language to express herself fully. She seemed to have a relaxed mood, but not too relaxed to show that she was not serious. I think the speaker should have used diction and imagery so as to pass her message clearly. The speech was all about presenting the truth as it was, about women who strive to create change and get equality of human rights.
The speaker could have employed emotional appeal while explaining how her child was bullied due to because mother’s action of defying the norms in the society, driving in Saudi Arabia. Additionally, she could have used facial expression to show sadness for a nine-day’s facing
