Instructions: Read Pages 1-5 in the Peer tutor handbook and Answer the questions that follow.
1) “In Plain Language” what is a peer tutor?
A peer tutor is a student without a disability that supports and helps a student with a disability.
2) List 4 things that inclusion IS?
Inclusion IS includes having a student included in all of the regular facets of school life, students learning side by side no matter the skill level, providing appropriate individualized education, and teaching students to accept everyone.
3) List 4 things that inclusion IS NOT?
Inclusion is not ignoring students personal unique needs, not collaborating with parents, having all the students learn the same thing or putting students into regular classrooms without help.
4) What types of skills are taught in the extended core and why are they important to the students that learn them?
Personal management skills such as shopping are taught, along with work habits and social habits. They are taught to the students so they can experience a little more of what life is like and the basic necessities if they were ever put in a situation they needed to handle.
5) What Skill is not taught much, but that a student in an EEC Class spends a great majority of his/her time doing?
Leisure is not necessarily taught in the schools but many people with disabilities enjoy their majority of time doing leisurely activities.
6) What is CBI and how can it be used to teach students in an ECC?
CBI is community based instruction, it is used in the most comfortable environment for the students which often helps teach the students in ECC because they are more willing to learn where they are comfortable.
