Based on the audit performed for Patton Fuller Community Hospital, auditors indicate that there was a 10% increase in patient revenues as well as other revenues. This could probably be contributed to an increase in patient visits and admissions to the hospital. Based on the observance of the audited form submitted it is noted under the expenses that Patton Fuller Community Hospital experienced many increases. The supplies line item experienced a 5% increase, which totaled 3,238. The cause of such an increase could easily be associated with the increase of patient visits and there admittance. This is merely an observation as there is no direct communication related to this line item or correspondence that we could assert for assurance and accountability as we pursued the statement at hand. Upon perusal of the audited financial document there was an overwhelming increase in the depreciation and amortization line items, which produced a shocking 44% rise from its previous year. The cause of this could be direct…

Atul Gawande sees the medical profession more as a business rather than actual healing. Today doctors get so caught up in mess of how much a particular surgery should cost that many forget about the patient’s care. At the beginning of “Piecework,” Gawande recently finished his residency and is looking to become an independent doctor. However, he was conflicted about how much they should pay him. He never thought or acted upon the annual salary of a new doctor before, because most doctors never boast about their yearly income. However, when he did ask certain doctors the conversation “turned out to be awkward…and they’d [mumble] as if their mouths were full of crackers” (Gawande 113). Gawande states that doctors should not have to respond, because their main goal is to take care and save the patients. The author explains certain things have a definite cost and one must follow those costs no matter how extreme they may be.…

On June 25, 2012, the Supreme Court had ruled that juveniles who committed a crime such as murder, could not be sentenced to life in prison because it is violating the Eighth Amendment's ban on cruel and unusual punishment. In the supreme court decision, I agree that it is harsh and should not be allowed for a minor to serve life in prison, even if murder is committed. The decision is agreeable due to the severe punishment on someone young whose life is ruined over the decision they made. The information on a minor is misleading it masks a juvenile as a brutal killer is society's eyes. These statements should be brought to the people who are disagreeing with the court decision, and prove that these minors do not deserve an adult sentence with life in prison.…

“Hospital Sketches” recounts what it was like in the hospital Louisa May Alcott was posted at in Washington during the Civil War. She gives very solid detail about what went on within the hospital and an inside look to what nurses and soldiers went through. Alcott’s account as a civil war nurse left me very surprised and thankful for today’s modern hospitals and women’s rights. She faced many challenges getting to the hospital and during her stay. Among the many challenges Alcott faced were gender related issues when trying to get a rail pass, poor organization of the hospital and care, and getting over the loss of John.…
