To my mind, people attend college for many different reasons, such as preparation for their future career, getting new experiences about people and places and for increasing their knowledge based on the area of studying that they have chosen.
I think, the most important reason for people to attend a university is for preparation of their career.
Definitely everyone needs money for satisfaction of their basic needs, namely, food, clothes, medical treatment and things like that, therefore, a good career and a good income can be an important motive for people to attend a college. In addition, a good career can create reputation and possibly fame for them.
Another reason for people to attend college or university is getting new experiences about people and places. Seemingly, when students move to new cities or countries and live in dormitory with another students, they meet many different people that have never seen before and they can learn a lot about cultures, tradition, habits and beliefs of other people by different nationalities. Seeing new people and new places, I believe, students can gain a different look at the world. In my view, this different look at the world is very worthy for everyone.
Besides preparation for career and getting new experiences, people attend college for increasing their knowledge. It appears that when students choose their field of study, they decide what are they looking for, in fact, students acquire specific knowledge based on their field of study, such as history, medicine, math, psychology, engineering and many other fields. For example, if a student chooses history as the area of study, he/she can get a lot of knowledge about events that happened in the past or about people that lived in days of yore. Also, if a student decides to study in the area of psychology, he/she can learn about peoples' mind, characteristics and attitudes.
