Pepsi is a soft drink produced and manufactured by PepsiCo. It is sold in many places such as retail stores, restaurants, schools, cinemas and from vending machines. The drink was first made in the 1890s by pharmacist Caleb Bradham in New Bern, North Carolina. The brand was trademarked on June 16, 1903. There have been many Pepsi variants produced over the years since 1898.
In October 2008, Pepsi announced that it would be redesigning its logo and re-branding many of its products by early 2009. In 2009, Pepsi, Diet Pepsi and Pepsi Max began using all lower-case fonts for name brands, and Diet Pepsi Max was re-branded as Pepsi Max.
The brand's blue and red globe trademark became a series of "smiles," with the central white band arcing at different angles depending on the product. Pepsi in countries such as the U.S., Canada, Brazil, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Colombia, Argentina and Puerto Rico is carrying the "smile" logo. As of August 2009, the 2003 Pepsi logo is still the current logo for Pepsi Wild Cherry and Pepsi ONE. Countries such as Australia and India continue to use the old design on all packaging. Diet Pepsi Wild Cherry, Pepsi Throwback, Diet Pepsi Lime, and Diet Pepsi Vanilla received the redesign.
