Athens at about 500 BC was an important Greek city-state where direct democracy was a form of government that was embraced by her people. The story of Athens and democracy would not be complete until Pericles is mentioned. This was due to his great changes and development he brought to Athens. Pericles was an important figure in the practice of direct democracy as a matter of fact, direct democracy was an important legacy that Pericles left in Athens. “Direct democracy is a form of government in which citizen rule directly and not through representatives” Roger, Linda, Harry, Philip and Dahia (2009 P: 135). In this system of government, the whole citizens of Athens were given opportunity to serve in the assembly where important government policies and decision are taken.
