Permanent Ink from Tea Bags Extracts
This research is being done to find out the potency of the extract of the leaves from the plant camellis sinensis as an ink. Nowadays, ink is a pigment in a liquid or paste form used as colorants and dyes. Also, they are becoming more and more expensive because of their increasing purposes. Our research aims to produce this ink as a cheaper alternative to these commercial ones. Compared to the ink we are aiming to create, commercially produced inks are toxic and can be hazardous to a person’s health once there s a inapprpriate contact with it.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM Generally, this investigatory project aims to find out if tea bags can be used to create an ink. Specifically, it aims to answer the following questions: 1. Are tea bags extract use as an ink effective? 2. What are the components of the tea bags that can show that it can be an effective alternative ink? 3. What type of tea is to be used for this study? 4. What additives should be used to strengthen the color of the ink?

HYPOTHESIS Extracts taken from tea bags have the potential to be made into an ink. Thus, if sugar syrup is added to the mixture, then the product would have stronger color and consistency than the ordinary ink.
OBJECTIVES:
1. To find out the potency of the extract of the leaves from the plant camellis sinensis as ink. 2. To make safer and cheaper product. 3. To recycle used tea bags.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY This investigatory project will benefit us by poducing an alternative ofr other inks. These other manufactured inks presently come quite expensive prices, but since the materails to be used in our project are common and easy to find, you will be spending less money. Also, no harmful chemicals will be used in making our ink. Therefore, it is non-toxic compared to cmmercially sold inks which hve the tendencies of causing harm to one’s health and to the environment.

Results with sample calculations: The results me and my partner Kody got were actually not that bad. Kody and I both thought that it was not going to turn out good and kind of sloppy, but in the end when we used the ink we made it didn’t look bad at all. It wasn’t the best but at least it wasn’t the worst. It was light when wrote on the paper at first but as time passed our ink started to darken a little…

Chromatography is a term used to define a set of laboratory techniques for the separation of mixtures. Through Chromatography we analyzed complex mixtures. In our recent lab we analyzed complex mixtures. The purpose of this lab was to find whether the water soluble or acetone soluble liquid traveled farther. In our recent lab we measured the distance traveled by the different colored water and acetone soluble inks. W put three dots of water soluble ink on a piece of filter paper and four dots of acetone soluble ink at the other end. We then put the end of the filter paper in a small amount of distilled water in a beaker. The filter paper absorbed the water and the ink slowly spread to the top of the paper. We repeated these steps for both the water soluble and acetone soluble ink but when we did the acetone soluble ink, we placed the filter paper in an acetone-water mixture instead of just distilled water. We then recorded our results which showed that water soluble inks traveled farther than the acetone soluble inks. The results of our experiment showed how each different color of water soluble inks traveled farther than any of the acetone soluble inks.…

The point of doing this project is to use paper chromatography to see which dyes are used in the coatings of your favorite colored candies. Chromatography is a technique for separating mixtures. Chromatography can be used to separate specific components from a complex mixture, based on molecular size or other chemical properties. It can also be used to identify chemicals, for example crime scene samples like blood, drugs, or explosive residue. Highly accurate chromatographic methods are used for process monitoring, for example to assure that a pharmaceutical manufacturing process is producing the desired drug compound in pure form. With colored mixtures in paper chromatography, you can see the components separate out on the paper. A mixture of various components enters a chromatography process, and the different components are flushed through the system at different rates.…

In the Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald uses language to illustrate how calm and tranquil Gatsby’s death was. In chapter 8, Tom spent the day after the accident with Gatsby and felt as if he just needed to simply talk to him. Whereas, George had come out of his seclusion and began to think about the events that occurred the previous night. He vowed he would find who that car belonged to and that he would do something about it. As the day progressed, Nick felt tense as if knowing something would happen, so he went to see Gatsby directly. His death was so serene, there was “barely perceptible movement” and wind which “scarcely corrugated the surface.” These words that demonstrate little movement, reflect on Gatsby’s demise. The “barely perceptible movement,”…

Toner consists of a dry, powdery substance that is electrically charged so that it adheres to a drum, plate, or piece of paper charged with the opposite polarity2. Common ingredients in toner are styrene acrylate copolymer, iron oxide, polymethyl, methacrylate, carbon black, polyester resin, amorphous silica, dyes, polypropylene, and waxes.3 As we see there are a lot of different ingredients, but styrene acrylate, carbon black and styrene copolymer, along with polyester resin are the most commonly used. Out of all of them, carbon black is the most dangerous compound. Carbon black, which the International Agency for Research on Cancer has classified as a 2B carcinogen, or "a dust that is possibly carcinogenic to humans4. Carbon black is a key pigment. The synthesis of carbon black is an energy intensive process, as it requires burning hydrocarbons at extremely high temperatures at approximately 2000 degrees Celsius in order to obtain elemental carbon.5 Styrene acrylate copolymer is makes up approximately 80% of the mixture that is used in toners. This is classified as a resin and is the key ingredient in the xerographic process. Styrene acrylate copolymer is manufactured from a process called a batch emulsion polymerization. Exact formulations of this compound vary from manufacturer to…
