In Persepolis, social classes had strict rules and there were lines drawn between social classes. Marji would help her maid Mehri write letters to a man next door that she liked. Mehri grew up in a very poor family and lied about being the daughter of Marji’s father. Marji’s father told the man that he and Mehri were in different social classes and he stopped writing to her. He then said to Marji “Their love was impossible, In this country you must stay within your own social class” (37). Marji found this unfair as her parents are following the rules of social classes but are also fighting in the revolution to get rid of them. Her parent’s behaviors conflict with their views of the revolution and getting rid of social classes. In an article about social classes DeAngelis says “ because of this sense of entitlement, higher-class people can behave more selfishly and less ethically than lower-income peers” (DeAngelis, “Class Differences”). This suggests that people who have more privileges and power feel that they are superior to others. This causes some people to look down on the poor and feel they are more important and have more rights than others. Social classes can cause conflicts between people because they think they are better than each
