The book Persepolis expresses a theme that not only occurs throughout this book, but also in life. I believe that death is the key to reality. Two events that happened in my life when I was very young can back up my theme. From my uncle being executed, to my friend who lived right next door to me, these events have helped me open my eyes to see what was really going on around me.
When my uncle Anoosh was released from prison, he stayed with me and my family. He would tell me these incredible stories about what he had done before he got locked up in prison and I became very fascinated by them. Even though I was too young to understand everything he told, I still wanted to know more. During that time he was staying with us, my parents got phone calls that Mohsen and Siamak's sister were killed. Uncle Anoosh knew that his turn was coming up, but he would always tell me that everything would be alright. One day after school I was expecting my uncle to pick me up but it was my mom who picked me up instead. When I asked where uncle Anoosh was she told me that he had gone back to Moscow. The story of a girl who experienced many life challenges like death of loved ones and war can have a huge impact on people of all ages and races. Persepolis is worthy of being sold all over because the powerful message that gets sent across is that sadly the only thing that can catch our attention about what's going on around the world and around our communities is death. When we hear of someone dying because of a certain situation we being to realize that such situations are really happening and they cannot be ignored and Persepolis shows a very good example of why death is the key to reality because death is a scary thing to think about and its a way of getting a message
