Kewuana Lerna used Perseverance, Passion, and Courage to succeed in College. Firstly, she used Perseverance to help her succeed her vocabulary class. For example, Paul Tough, author of “How Children Succeed,” shares how Kewuana showed Perseverance by coming up with a strategy to help her understand vocabulary faster (Tough). Thus, Kewuana used Passion to succeed in her classes. Secondly, Kewuana used Passion to succeed in her classes. For instance, Tough reports that Kewuana got help out of school by working with a tutor and her teachers during office hours. Therefore, Kewuana was Passionate about succeeding in her classes. Thirdly, Kewuana was very brave. To illustrate, Tough tells how Kewuana politely introduces herself to her teacher and…
The ability to persevere is extremely important in overcoming a mental or physical challenge. In the World War II Audie Murphy was able to be the most decorated soilder, despite being injured many times along the way. After talking about Murphy being the most decorated soldier the biography of Audie Murphy states, "Murphy had been wounded three times during the war, yet, in May 1945, when victory was declared in Europe, he had still not reached his 21st birthday." Murphy wasn't even 21 when the war ended, meaning he was injured three times and was able to still be the most decorated soldier, all while being one of the youngest soldiers. Audie Murphy overcame all of his injuries, despite having no war experience and kept fighting for his country which displays excellent…
Beating something can require perseverance in many different ways. In The Call of the Wild, Buck is taken from his cozy home and put on a sled dog team. He fights with the lead dog, Spitz, often, until one time Buck finally beat him in a fight. On the other hand, my Gram went to college and took a speech class. She was afraid of speaking in front of a large group of people, so she used perseverance to help her control her decisions. While Buck and Gram are different, they were both afraid at one point and both beat a fear they had. Both Gram and Buck had to experience something new, whether it was fighting with another dog or going to college and talking in front of people.…
Perseverance can enable you to overcome tough circumstances in life. This can be seen in both books, War Horse by Michael Morpurgo, and Wonder by R.J. Palacio. In War Horse, there is a horse named Joey. He has lost people he has cared about, and tries to find his way back home. In Wonder, Auggie has a facial deformity, and has a hard time in middle school.…
“I’m convinced that about half of what separates the successful entrepreneurs from the non-successful entrepreneurs is perseverance.” -- Steve Jobs…
Every obstacle can be turned into an opportunity through perseverance and dedication. Human nature is associated with the stubbornness to succeed. For example, Harriet Tubman did not let any racial barriers overthrow her. Also, during the colonial period the colonists did not allow themselves to be dominated by the British. Another example is of Andrew Carnegie who headed the Carnegie Steel Industry in the nineteenth century.…
My dad grew up wanting to be a firefighter. Once he grew up, he decided to put that dream into action by actually becoming one. My dad had to work through the many physical and mental challenges and tests in order for him to make his dream come true. However, when he met my mom and they were instantly in love. After they got married, my mom spoke to my dad telling him that if they were going to have a family, my mom wouldn't want to have to worry about his safety, because being a firefighter is very dangerous and stressful on a family. So, my dad decided that being a dad was more important to him. Although it was still hard for him to know that his hard work to become a firefighter was all for nothing. Another example of when my dad had to persevere was when he had a seizure. My dad had 3 seizures and he told me that he felt as if he wasn't in control of his body. He said that knowing he didn’t have control was one of the scariest things he has experienced. He had to work through fears going through his head, but also physically. He had to go through many tests and recovery assignments that required him to persevere physically. Overall, my dad has worked very hard to get to where he is now and that is why he is a great example of showing what perseverance can…
In the novel, The Kite Runner, the author Khaled Hosseini depicts guilt and perseverance as the motivation for an individual to seek redemption and attain the satisfaction of self-fulfillment.…
An unknown author once said, “Whenever you find yourself doubting how far you can go, just remember how far you have come. Remember everything you have faced, all the battles you have won, and all the fears you have overcome.” This author demonstrates precisely what it means to persevere. Perseverance was an early Native American value and many people still consider this value to be critical today. Quitting was despised by Native Americans and still is by people currently.…
Perseverance is key in athletics. Students may be tempted to give up mid game if their team is losing; however, valuable lessons can be learned if the athlete remains gritty and tries even harder. Perhaps their perseverance will cause other athletes to try harder as well. Also, teens need perseverance in their personal lives. Sometimes life is really difficult, and if you have several difficult situations occurring at the same time, it can begin to weigh you down. Even though life may be hard, you should continue to try your best to get through it. You most likely will go through many hardships in life, but the world is not against…
Presidents Obama’s commonsense immigration reform proposal has four parts. The subject in which caught most of my attention was the way immigrants can earn their citizenship. This proposal provides undocumented immigrants a legal way to earn citizenship. This would allow those hidden in shadows to come out and pay taxes and play by the rules like everyone else. Those living illegally in the U.S. would be responsible for their actions be passing national security and criminal background check, paying taxes and a penalty, also to learn English before earning their citizenship. Which I hope I can be eligible in a couple of years. There is no uncertainty about their ability to become U.S. citizens if criteria met. The proposal will also stop innocent…
But when we do not give up, at the end of the tunnel, there is always light, and it only benefits us. Sometimes we are put in tough situations our self, for example, a student may be doing badly on his/her tests and assignments, but instead of deciding to just drop out of school, if he or she has perseverance and persistence, he/she will continue to study harder, focus in class more, and ask for extra help. Eventually their hard work will pay off, and the student will start to accomplish higher grades on his/her tests and…
In the story so far, I think that the theme is perseverance. The story shows how Salva, and Nya represent perseverance. Both characters express perseverance throughout the book at some point. They each never give up during the text. Salva and Nya persevere during each chapter.…
In the article, “The Winning Edge,” the author, Peter Doskoch, explains the reasons to persevere. When you start something, don’t stop until you reach success. Thomas Edison said, “Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” (Doskoch, Pg. 161, Paragraph 3). Being successful doesn’t pay off if it’s easy. Some will give up because “it’s too hard.” Isn’t that where the joy of success comes from? If it’s easy, it’s not worth it. You also have to realize that nobody is perfect, no matter how hard they try to be. “The Winning Edge,” tells us how there is always more room for improvement. We are all human, and it is natural for us to make a couple mistakes here and there. The important thing is that we learn from our mistakes. Another point that “The Winning Edge” points out is that we should all learn to like what we do. When we make a crappy mistake and take a wrong turn in our lives, make the most out of it. Doskoch mentions that “Perseverance...can itself foster…
Hard work and perseverance is something a number of people are taught at a young age. Suzanne Lucas, a woman who spent 10 years in corporate human resources, has this to say about working hard, “Some people pat themselves on the back when they do as little work as possible. While this provides temporary fun, it won’t help towards real success.” No matter what someone’s job is, if they put in their hardest work…
