I can still remember the day like it was yesterday, the sound of joyful children running around everywhere. Many years ago, I had the great experience of going to Haiti on a mission trip. It was something that changed my mind and made me see things in a different light. The trip allowed me to see what a difference I can make in society. Bringing me to my life long mission of becoming a leader and showing people that we can all unit as one and make the true difference in the lives of others. I want to take you on an incredible journey of my story and why I should be selected to become a part of the 2017 Leadership Academy.
Growing up in Miami, Florida we had two types of people the leaders and the followers it was a struggle growing up in such a huge city filled with people that wanted to be leaders. I am apart of the first generation of Cuban Americans in my family. Hearing all the stories my grandfather used to tell me from his childhood in Cuba to the struggle it was coming to the United States with nothing got me on my path of becoming a leader. I knew from an early age I was meant to do great things in this world, which lead me to the trip of a lifetime. Going to Haiti did open my eyes even bigger and brighter into making my dreams come true.
