The Inside Look of Nursing My aspiration for nursing was sparked early in my high school years when my mom was diagnosed with Anemia and I visited her at the hospital on a daily basis. This particular experience exposed to me the roles that nurses play in the hospital setting. The functions of the human body and the effects of the environment, drugs, and genetics on the human never failed to capture my interest, however at that moment I knew that I wanted to do what the nurses did. With such a variety of paths one could take, I thought it be perfect for someone who wanted to travel, take care of people and feel like they've contributed their fair share to the world; these were the thoughts that came to my mind when it was time to pick a career. Once I had decided on Nursing as my profession, it was necessary to set some short and long term goals for the future. Setting these goals were more easily said than done. Currently, my goals are set in the University of Louisville, I plan to graduate with my BSN in Nursing. After my graduation, I want to first serve my community by offering medical assistance to those who are less fortunate such as volunteering for Red cross or at a local hospital. Only after I have done my share in the community will I travel to different areas of the world to offer medical assistance. My long term goal is to become a pediatrics nursing because children have always been my strong point . While researching about nursing, I realized that it required a lot more out of someone rather than just the basics. For instance “It is estimated that 69.5% of errors in medication dosing involves children.(Schmidt, 2011, p.1) In this journal article I read, the author talked about how there are dosage calculation errors all the time in pediatric care and compared the two methods the staff used to calculate these dosages. The two methods they mainly used were the volume/weight based calculations
