Not every day you can get this type of information from a worker. She also informed me on the good and the bad qualities of her job and why she appreciates both because both have shaped her to be the best Resident Assistant she can be through experiences. A few of her experience were slightly weird but it was astonishing how she has grown and handled each situation according to the rule book and her job description.

She explained to me how challenging it was to learn to code shift and relate to not only the United States citizens but the students whom came from all over the world to attend this magnificent university. This was a main challenge for her because most of the foreign residents that stay in my building are on her floor which can make it very difficult when these residents need something. She has been working for the same school for over 20 years. She started off as a teacher assistant in a pre-kindergarten classroom, which my oldest child was attending at the time. Esther came to Chicago with very little education, but a great desire to succeed. Esther says, “I have always known that I wanted to be a teacher. When I came to the United States, I came with the desire to succeed and learn. I did research on many schools and found out about programs that would help me achieve my goal. I was not going to take no for an answer.” Esther is a very friendly and enthusiastic woman. I often see her talking and laughing with parents on school grounds or in social events. Yes, Esther attends many social events in our neighborhood. She is well known by parents and children in the community. She has seen my children grow up and she has been a great support for me. I chose to interview Esther because not only does she work with children, she encourages women to become the best that they can be so that they can provide for their families and become independent. This is what she did for me. She encouraged me to go back to school and get my degree in…

Sounds pretty similar to the agency I work for but it sounds like you had a lot more training then we did. Oddly, I was never asked or told to shadow anyone however, I did have a few nurses shadow me. I asked these nurses about it and they told me they weren’t getting paid for their time and I thought that was a little bizarre. I’m guessing that many agencies do not pay people for training after hearing your experience was similar to…

Her culture was disparate to American culture from every aspect of her life. Hearing her talk about Indonesia was the most intriguing part of any conversation. Even though I had in the past been exposed to diversity, being so many years living in the Rio Grande Valley accustomed me to Hispanics. She brought a breath of fresh air, one unexpected but welcomed with arms wide open. We were the same, people of this earth and it was a mutual understanding between her and everyone around her. Her maturity with assisting church constantly and setting aside every difference we had with her was transmitted intensely. Enjoyment described every moment spent with her learning about each other sharing our languages with each other to learn and comprehend at a minimum was just more knowledge to accept gratefully on both parts. But by far the most important aspect of our relationship was respect. Respect never left and greater praise to her for accepting the people of the church to coexist with her and enjoy her company only led me to admire her more.…

As I got out of my car and started walking to the front door, all I could do was admire this beautiful building that resembled a ranch-style home. When I walked through the front door, the smell of mashed potatoes, baked chicken breast, and wheat rolls filled my nose; it was as if I was walking into my own grandma’s house. In front of me there was a group of people; some in wheelchairs, some using walkers, and others on the couch shouting out answers to the latest crossword puzzles. Walking through these doors brought me to the realization that I was soon going to learn everything about each one of these people. This included how to specially care for and assist them with their everyday needs in this place that they call their home. I did not…
