The ER waiting room smelled stale. Sick babies and toddlers were crying, waiting to see a doctor. My brother was laying on the tan tiled hospital floor. He was shaking terribly as the antibiotics from the previous hospital wore off and the infection set in more. Both of his hands were red and swollen. His right hand, had a black mark from where the IV initially infected. His left hand was swollen to the size of a small balloon, kind of like a blown up rubber glove I used to get from the doctor when I was younger. My mom took her jacket off to cover him. His skin was hot to the touch but he was still freezing. His fever was 101.2 but there were no open rooms in the ER at our second attempt at a hospital. We had to get him antibiotics…
On January 12, 2017 in Sioux Falls, SD, I job shadowed at Avera Hospital with Teri Ruiter who is a midwife. When I first got to the hospital I had to find a place to park at plaza 1. I went inside and a guy behind a desk asked me where I was going, I told him the Avera Women’s on the 4th floor. From there he showed me where the elevator was. I went up to the Women’s center and the lady behind a desk asked how she could help me, I explained to her I had a job shadow with a midwife. She then brought me back to the midwifery section. There I met 4 ladies, one of them was Ruiter. We introduced ourselves. Then got busy.…

I have established many great relationships with different doctors and APRNS. In the ICU setting where I was employed, I did notified two physicians which I worked with about my plans for Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and both supported me and agreed to help me with a preceptorship in pulmonary and critical medicine. Dr. Erasto Cortes and Dr. Ahmed Hajj are the two physicians which I worked with and still keep in touch with. I currently work with two great surgeons, Dr. Michael Lara and Dr. Jorge Acosta, both which are also aware of my plans and have been very supportive. They both agree to also precept me in General surgery, trauma and gastrointestinal surgeries. I am currently employed with Del Sol Medical Center and my current Director is…
There are many jobs to choose from to fit every persons personalities and the way people interact with people.…
Sounds pretty similar to the agency I work for but it sounds like you had a lot more training then we did. Oddly, I was never asked or told to shadow anyone however, I did have a few nurses shadow me. I asked these nurses about it and they told me they weren’t getting paid for their time and I thought that was a little bizarre. I’m guessing that many agencies do not pay people for training after hearing your experience was similar to…
I had some experiences, such as assisting in the transporting of individuals going on scheduled activities, helping them bath, dress, oral hygiene, toilet, feed and groom, ensuring the environment is free of safety hazards by correcting any hazards found and reporting them to the supervisor, observing persons served for signs and symptoms of disease, injury, reactions to medications, interacting them, and entertaining them by dancing and singing with them. I would like to serve this population as a medical doctor,…
It was a chilly day on March 6, 2007. Me and my family were on 495 going to the Holy Cross Hospital with a slight delay of traffic. For some reason, I kept fiddling with my fingers, I was really nervous to see him. We took the exit 31A and we all shifted to the left since it was a sharp turn to the right. My big sister, Maisie, was on my shoulder and we shifted her head fell on my lap. She woke up and asked where we were. “We are almost there Maisie” my Dad said. We stopped at the traffic light and I fiddled with my fingers some more. “Stop fiddling with your fingers!” Maisie whispered to me. In my head, I say “I can’t, he is the first boy of the family, the first! Besides me!” I stopped fiddling and looked at the huge structure in front of me, The Holy Cross Hospital.…
Every individual has their own unique talent in a job. I found my weakness and strength by taking an online assessment test. I learned many different other things about myself as well. Now I have the ability to teach myself on a personal and professional level.…
The attributes that I will bring to the Nursing and Student community is my experience as a provider in a rural area. I have also practice in my Native American Culture and Traditions. Beading, Sewing, Gathering in Traditional Fishing and Hunting, Gathering Berries and Root Digging. I will bring my traditional beliefs as a Yakama Nation male and the traditions passed down from my generations. I have had the ability to adapt to modern day society and weave my cultural responsibility with my academic rigors. As far as professional experience, I have many years of Nursing Assistant positions held in ER, Acute Care, and Long Term Care. I have served the at risk youth in my community by being a leader and mentor for guidance. Also, I have completed…
My duty as a nurse is to promote good and do no harm and respect the patient as the most basic and universal principle. According to the code, my most fundamental accountability is to the patient. In addition, it is my duty to make the most wise and ethical decisions for what is best for the organization. As a leader, I am self-aware of my values and basic beliefs about the rights, duties and goals of human beings. Unfortunately, here utilitarianism of what is best for the common good outweighs what is best for the individual. Mr. Cole has the right to leave against medical advice and it saddens me the issues they may face being denied home health care, however, it is not justified to withhold information from the physician. I could be risking…

While medical care was available growing up, there were financial or situational periods where it was not necessarily accessible. I am from a single parent family. My mother moved in with my grandparents after her divorce and works two full time jobs to help provide for my brother, grandparents, and I. Since my father went to jail and my grandfather passed, we have had to make many adjustments financially. This was the case due to my father not providing payments for child support for the time he was incarcerated nor occasional months prior. There has also been a complication with my mother and I having our identity stolen, which has created additional problems when applying for governmental aid throughout my undergraduate years. I worked…
When asked what I do when I am at work I often have a problem just laying my finger on particular nursing things. When you say “I give out medicines, I start IVs, I make sure my patient’s are comfortable, etc.” It is almost like people are disappointed and confused why I am so tired when I get off work. People do not understand that I am a patient advocate, I hold hands that are scared, I have mastered keeping a baby asleep while I do an assessment, I take stress away from parents, I listen, I watch, I walk between rooms until my feet cannot walk anymore and chart when I can.…
Once the ambulance arrived, I didn’t want her to leave my arms. The EMT’s grabbed her, and immediately tried CPR. That didn’t work, and she was not responding to anything. The investigators come over to me and the other people that looked for her, and witnessed everything. They asked us a few questions to hear what happened, and see if we needed anything. My EMT’s took my fiance to the hospital, and I went with them. Once we arrived to the hospital, they told me I need to go home, and get a nice hot shower with lots of soap because I had blood all over me.…
