On a sunny Saturday morning when I was 5 years old, my sister and I were playing a game where we would push ourselves off of our bed like it was a slide. Our room was a pigsty; it looked as if a tornado had passed through. The mess from our closet met up with the end of our bed. I had just slid down the bed feet first into the mess when it happened.…

3 people fell into a ditch as we were running and were slaughtered by the bear. Everyone was panicking and running, and many fell over and were attacked by the bear. My group got away by doing sharp turns and running around trees, but was badly injured. I was horrified and grabbed some leaves to help my group, but only myself, Froog, Googa, Berg, and the dogs lived, and a majority of our group was dead. We walked out of the woods, and buried the bodies.…

He lunged at us trying to grab us,He pulled out a sharp, rusty, cleaver then threw it “WOOSH” and all three of us ducked and it just barely cut my hair, we all ducked different ways until we got to the door,I had a plan. So I ran out to the allyway where the dog was then the minute the man jumped at me again I ducked, falling the man tryed to swing his cleaver but the dog bit his clothing and all you could hear was “AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHGRGRGRG…”…

I could hear the blood pumping in my ears, away from the situation, and I started calming my breathing. I headed back to camp, content with trying to forget what I heard. The heavy footsteps of a creature larger than simple game. Almost as though just hiding from me, either to prepare to pounce, or to hide. What bothered me most however, was not that it was seemingly a creature who just wanted to hide, but that it hid. It sounded like a large creature, but a deer would have run, and a wolf would attack, followed by others. What was that? As I reached the campsite, the flames of my fire were softly dancing as though doing a waltz. I checked all of camp, but all the food and supplies I had gathered were gone. I headed back into the woods to the spot where I heard the rustle of leaves. The forest was still unsettlingly still, so I made the point to make my presence be known. I searched for any signs of where my belongings could have ended up. I stumbled upon a skinned deer. With that I knew I was not alone. I searched further, and found the hide on the ground near the river. I lifted it, wondering why any creature would skin a deer just to leave the hide behind not too far…

It’s midnight and as I expected, a black Ford F-150 Truck with tinted windows pulls up to my house. I walk outside holding a backpack with my portable speakers and a baseball bat. However, I quickly change my mind and leave the baseball bat inside the house. I hop into the back seat of the truck and am greeted by four large burly kids. “What’s up Matt?” says Ben who is sitting in the drivers seat. With music blasting, Ben takes off the parking brake and presses his foot down onto the gas pedal. Soon we are heading down dark winding roads as we listen to music from Captain Murphy, which contributes to our mischievous mood. Finally we arrive.…

Growing up in rural Kansas was boring. Especially since I grew up in the seventies. There were no cell phones or game systems to occupy my time. My family had an old black and white television set. I loved to watch The Price is Right in the days before Bob Barker’s hair turned white. After the show was over, the only way to kill time was to play outside and wander down to the creek that ran parallel to our property. There was a secret trail buried in the wall of trees that lined our two acre yard. My brother and I would slide down the trail, landing on the dirt banks like explorers on a mission. Sometimes we would hunt for crawdads under rocks. Other times we would take our poles and fish. We never went into the water after the time I got bit by a gar.…

A deer, not just any deer though, it was a buck, the size of my grandpa’s truck! 20 points on the antlers at least, definitely was a non-typical. It was kind of a weird shade of tan, I had never seen anything like it before. I reached for my rifle. While doing this, the butt of my gun bumped into my chair and startled the buck a little. It just looked up in our direction for a few seconds, which seemed like 30 minutes to me and Grandpa. When this beast looked back down to the corn on the ground, I propped my rifle out the window of the box on stilts. Making as little…

When I was ten years old my family and I went on a magnificent camping trip, or so I thought it was going to be. The place we were going to camp at was by the Cannonball River. It was the last one of summer before school started again. We had planned to fish, roast marsh mellows, and have a fire every night.…
