Personal Narrative: Art In The Park
Free Time What is free time? I wouldn’t quite know the answer to this question. My middle school and high school years have been consumed by school, hockey, and various ways of paying for my future. I have gone from getting nice and dirty fishing golf balls out of ponds, to tying thousands of knots creating paracord bracelets, and to lacing up my skates to teach young hockey players to improve their skating. Art in the Park is a street fair in Plymouth, Michigan where I sold my paracord bracelets. Usually, selling in fairs like this is extremely costly; however, this particular fair offers a unique opportunity to kids. Art in the Park features a kids section which allows kids to sell their products and pay less than normal for their. All three years that I have been a vendor in Art in the Park, I have sold paracord bracelets, a thick strong, and highly customisable bracelet. Although Art in the Park yields great money, the bracelets are hard to make because they tear apart your hands. I have sold over 200 bracelets at each of these fairs, and at the end, my hands were on the verge of bleeding. Running this little business has been a learning process for me, and ultimately has taught me lessons that I could not have learned any other way, such as: interacting with people in a friendly way, …show more content…
To make that work, I had to collect the balls from the pond using different tools and getting incredibly dirty in the process. I also befriended some very nice people whose house backed up to the golf course who allowed me to set up my table behind their house. This was important because legal reasons prevented me from selling on golf course property. From this experience, I learned that work ethic is crucial to being successful in life and will pay off in the end, and that networking can make running a business significantly

I parked my car on Devon Avenue in front of Shore Galleries and took a quick glance through the car window. Shore Galleries sign was attached to the building above the main entrance and windows were completely tinted. Shore Galleries was located next to a dry cleaning business. Unless you knew the nature of business of Shore Galleries, not many people would realize that Shore Galleries is a firearms store with an indoor gun range. I sat in my car for a few minutes to clear my head and thought about things that I should pay a closer attention to once I get inside.…

Friday. T minus 15 hours till the last day of camp. The Saturday volunteer cancelled. My game plan was crumpled up and trashed. “Why hadn’t I thought of backup plan?” I asked myself, on the verge of pulling out my hair. I hadn’t taken into account all the variables and now I was receiving the repercussions. I had no idea becoming the Transportation Coordinator for a camp would be so stressful.…

My creativity is like a roller coaster. At the beginning of my life I was riding the roller coaster of my creativity up a very high hill. This was the time when I was just starting to figure out how everything worked and what creativity ment. I found I could express myself through a crayon and piece of paper. I was drawing everything that made me happy. My family was what I mostly drew at this point, because my happiness revolved around them. As I got further up the hill the track kept getting steeper, because I was learning about my creativity very fast. I even started drawing what made me sad, like my best friends getting mad at me or my dog passing away. I could tell my mom how I felt without saying…

Everyone has their own community or organization for which they belong to. Within that community you tend to find who you are and what you are about. For me I found my identity in being an outdoors man. Being an outdoors man at my young age seems to be rare at this day, but that doesn’t prevent me from doing something I love and appreciate. Growing up with my family full of avid outdoors men helped influence me and only made my identity stronger.…

I've never been an "outdoors" experience kind of person. Maybe, it's because I'm very sedentary and prefer to stay inside to read and enjoy tranquility. I avoid all types of chaos and crowded places. Nevertheless, my visit to the Camuy River Cave Park (back in 2004) was refreshing and enriching in knowledge, historically, scientifically and spiritually. That experience brought the best out of me, as a human being and a nature lover, by giving the chance of experiencing a whole new level of peace and tranquility.…

I lace up my walking shoes and head outdoors in my neighborhood. I enjoy being outdoors looking at the trees, neighbors' plants and flowers, ducks swimming in the creek, and squirrels scurrying up the trees. Just being outdoors, helps me forget what is bothering me. Saying "Hello" to other walkers make me smile. When I arrive home from my walk, I feel refreshed and I have a feeling I can tackle…

In April, I was given the opportunity to work with several English language learners at P.S.189. I was able to work with Mrs. Bogue’s Kindergarten class and Mrs. James first grade classroom. During my visits, i was allowed to select students to partake in literacy and language activities. The teacher’s informed me of the students who were English language learners . I asked Mrs.Bogue and later Mrs.James to tell me a brief description of the students that I would engage in activities with. The children that I was able to work with during my fieldwork experience are as follows;…

Imagine the smell of freshly cut grass drifting through the air and numbered red flags waving in the breeze. You hear the quiet rumble of a golf cart engine and the sounds of laughter filling the broad land surrounding you. Can you guess the environment you are in? Well surely, a golf course. Although most may not be aware that there is much time and effort added into creating a golf course, Cindi Norton knows first hand that there is extensive amounts of hard work that goes into a project like this. In 1968, Stub and Barbara Baker agreed to purchase 120 acres of cow pasture and forest to be transformed into a golf course with Ralph and Joanne Nichols. According to Cindi, “both families loved to golf.” They would…

When I went to the art museum, I had no idea that I would come into contact with one of my favorite Impressionists artists. I spent hours walking through the museum, gallery after gallery. Each piece was beautifully created. I saw portraits, prints, sculptures, all eccentric in their own way. My family, quickly paced, moved through the maze of colors with lightning speed. As for me, each one had an intricate story and detail that I was determined to learn.…

I always keep this poem and picture in my wallet. I take it everywhere with me because it means quite a lot to me in two very different ways. One of those ways is because it holds sentimental value. When I was younger I learned to read very late in life and I was always so embarrassed of that. My father knew that I was struggling and bought me the book, Where the Sidewalk Ends. It is a book full of poems and little pictures written by Shel Silverstein. I remember opening the book to ta random page, and it was the page with this poem. I then remember my dad asking me to read it to him. I was so uncomfortable, even thought I was just going to be reading to my dad. He gave me some words of encouragement, and even thought I was not able to read…

Would you ever expect to see graffiti in the woods? My sisters and I went on a walk in the woods by our house. We walked in the woods and smelled the strong scent of sap dangling from the pine trees. I knew that we would see some animals on our walk in the woods. I looked to my left and saw some deer roaming in the cornfield with a few bunnies next to them. We kept walking and we saw a giant cement wall with tons of graffiti . It was so cool looking at the graffiti art on that wall because it had bright colors; like purple, pink, blue, red and many different colors. After we looked at the wall of graffiti for a while, we decided to walk back home.…

There were certain things I wanted to work on, after getting my grade for my Visual essay. I wanted to focus on staying on topic because that was one of the things that I struggled with and got points taken off because of that. I also wanted to work on my comma splices, and punctuation, which I usually struggle with and got points taken off. I also wanted to improve working on my tone, and the way I write or express myself while writing because sometimes, I get comments from the Writing Center, and from my professor. In my Rebuttal Essay, I think I did a very good job of staying on topic and worked on my context well. But I also struggled still with my comma splices, because I put all my focus on the content of the paper, and had little or…

For my museum visit, I visited the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. I visited the museum on November seventh with my mom and my younger siblings. The first thing I go to see was their Cinco de Mayo installation. They had all of the elements represented in sand boxes with colored sand depicting images related to the elements on a huge alter. There were cards that you could fill out for a loved one who had passed on to put on the alter. This was one of my favorite part of visiting the museum.…

My survival art project represents a die. A die has six sides, and when rolled, it is completely random. There is no warning before the die is rolled, telling us what you are about to roll. That is just like life. There is no warning before a bump goes right into your path. You could have a problem that affects you today or your future. These problems could be anything from your family, pets, health, friends, finances, or your education. In family problems, it could be your parents getting a divorce, or losing a loved family member. In pet problems, you could have your pet ruin your house, or they could be needed to be put down. In health, you could have something as severe as cancer, or something as little as a scrape. In friends…
