The important pursuit of financial success is an idea that has been drilled into my head by the adults in my life from early on; my parents struggled in life, and for me they wanted a better, easier, future for me. What I took away from this was that I would not be successful and happy without the money and credentials as well. I could not understand why so many of my classmates wanted to be writers and artists; didn't they too want to be successful? However, the summer before my senior year, I had an idea that would change my thought process forever: a visit to the gateway of success, the Naval Academy.…

When I was 14 years old, me and my father were heading to my grandma and grandpa’s house in one of our manual vehicles. I remember as we had left I was contemplating the idea of driving manual due to my slight curiosity of the subject and of course, as we had left I didn’t really get the concept of a third pedal so as all kids do I asked my dad, “Why do you have a third pedal?” and I remember as we went he showed me that as you press the clutch pedal it would disengage the transmission from the car therefore letting him shift to the following gear of the sequence. We get nearly half way there and then find ourselves on a back road. I just had that feeling in myself that I had to ask to drive. I finally work the nerve to ask to drive but right as I do my dad shuts the car off and hops out in assumption I wanted to anyways.…

It was impossible though, the baby was coming and there was no turning back now.…

It was a perfectly normal Saturday night, until I sat on the couch. I expected to enjoy a funny movie with my dad, but instead I got a trip to the hospital. I sat on the couch, and then I felt a sting in my elbow. At first, it felt like I got a shot at the doctor, but it slowly got worse, and felt more like a knife slicing into my elbow. I winced and sprung up from the couch. I squinted and my eyes scanned the spot where I just sat down. Aha, I thought. There was a small piece of plastic, and it looked like it broke off from a container.…
