entitled ‘writer’, I find myself often walking the lines amongst the various forms of the creative writing spectrum, ranging from that of poetry, to short stories and lyrical notes. However, despite this, my primary aspiration is being that of a screenwriter. Being a massive fanatic of films, TV shows, Video games, etc, (and a self-proclaimed movie buff), I find pleasure in constantly being enthralled into the mediums storylines and characters. The texts I find to be my biggest inspirations and the ultimate reasons behind my passion, would include: The 2013 Video Game ‘The Last of us, Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’, Vince Gilligan’s ‘Breaking Bad’, Christopher Nolan’s ‘Interstellar’ and Stephen King’s ‘The Green Mile; just to name a few. I have always been somewhat obsessed with the worlds that films and other mediums can establish; once having aspirations to either write comics or have some form of influence upon films, however, writing my own forms of literature has ultimately been my way of appeasing that enthusiasm.
Choosing my A-level subjects were especially imperative in ensuring that they appeased to my passions.
The most obvious choice was English Literature, knowing that the studies of literature, both pre and post 19th century texts was an absolute necessity. Not only would the studies of these texts provide me with inspiration, but also studying and analysing what worked and what didn’t I thought was absolutely crucial. Not only was this in reference to fictional novels, but also that of poetry (another hobby of mine). Choosing History as an A-level is mostly the result of making sure I remain aware of historical facts and elements that may prove beneficial for future endeavors. My third choice however was found to originally be of two. It was hard for me to personally decide between doing either Drama or Media Studies, both being, what I assumed, would be subjects that would be beneficial for my ambitions. Having a past in theatre, I constantly find myself enthralled in the narratives of plays and productions. For GCSE my group were instructed to construct our own play, which resulted in an overall A for our production. Personally, I found constructing the script to be one of the most exciting and educational parts of that process. However, in choosing between Media and Drama, I ultimately decided media; as the study of films and the various forms of media were things I had never had the pleasure of
learning.
Whether by writing poetry, stories, songs or simply mind-storming potential ideas, the very thought of the possibility of these to come to fruition leave me ridiculously excited. The opportunity to potentially interact with like minded individuals leave me salivating at the mere thought.
