Cole already has seen “the inside of a dozen police stations, been through as many counselors, a psychologist, several detention centers, and two residential treatment centers (6). One of the kids Cole beat on was Peter, “Peter Driscal, was a ninth grader Cole had picked on many times before just for the fun of it. Still, no one ratted on Cole Matthews without paying the price” (Page 7). Cole did this because Peter ratted on Cole for breaking and entering a hardware store and vandalizing it, and stealing from it. Cole doesn’t have feelings for anything or anyone. “Later, after school, Cole cornered Peter outside in the parking lot. With anger that had been brewing all day, he attacked him and started hitting him in the with his bare fist” (Page 7). Cole also has done many other things, robbing, fights, and more. Cole almost beat Peter so bad that he could have killed Peter, next time Cole might kill…
Hello; I Am sleeping wolf and will tell you a story of a great warrior the story im going to tell you takes place in the year 1856. the story is about my grandfather. A hero of the lands one no one would soon forget.…
Cole Matthews is an abused child who turned into a troubled kid because his parents abused him every day. He became an angry person who was willing to take anybody out in his way. When he got into trouble he would manipulate everyone into thinking he was sorry but he never really meant it. Cole hated everyone because anytime he didn’t get his way he would resort to the same violence and anger his father used on him. Cole thinks everything is a game, he thinks he should never be responsible for his own actions. Cole managed to get away with everything with no issues until he assaulted Peter. Cole thought he did no wrong because Peter told on him and anyone. Cole thought he could talk his way out of the assault charges like the other events when he got into trouble. The only reason Cole joined circle justice is because Garvey told him he could avoid going to jail. If Garvey hadn’t gotten Cole to join Circle Justice he wouldn’t have changed his bad ways. Being alone on the island, getting attacked by the spirit bear, and learning ways to relieve his anger through soaking in the pond and pushing the rock taught him to view the world in a new perspective. Cole realized that staying angry was the worst thing he could have done. He finally accepted his actions and saw the error in his ways. I saw the change in Cole’s character when he wanted to help Peter channel his anger. Cole never cared about anyone besides himself throughout his entire life. He was actually trying to help and wanted to be forgiven by Peter. Cole deceived everyone in his life and never cared about it. It was now in his best interest to become a better person, and rid himself of the evil he did in his life.…
Mr. Hittson I totally apologize for Coltens actions. He is definately being raised better than that. I have had a long talk with him over this issue. I noticed this morning Colten seemed upset about something when he got dropped off. When he got into the school I texted him and told him to not let anything deter him in school if he is upset. He has been having girlfriend issues that I have been trying to guide him through and I think that is what has been wrong with him. He's usually not like this. He is being raised in a very good home with good guidance. I told him I will not tolerate him using profanity and disrespecting the teachers or the school. I also told him that in the future if he acts the same with future bosses, then he will be…
Cole does not seem to have any control of the unforgettable emotions. “Edwin told me once that anger was a memory never forgotten. He’s right” (Page 130). The main cause of his anger is his own angry and alcoholic father and shy hopeless mother. Cole is beaten up by his angry father without any mercy, and his shy mother only watches him getting beaten. She does not even attempt to stop her husband from beating her own son. These irresponsible actions by Cole’s parents, made him feel that he was worthless and lived his life for no reason. “You don’t get it do you? My parents are divorced and don’t give a rat if I live or die. All they care about is themselves. Nobody cares about me. All my life I’ve been dumped on” (Page 27). As a result, the anger that was building inside of him eventually got out of control. This anger causes Cole to commit crimes. Cole robbed and trashed a hardware store. Peter, a boy at Cole’s school, found out that Cole did this act of violence. So, Peter told on Cole. Cole found out, in which he got very angry and mad. Instead of confronting Peter, Cole decided to smash Peter’s head against the sidewalk, very badly.Once Cole was sent to the island of Drake in Alaska, Cole felt depressed and angry at the same time. Cole eventually burnt down his cabin. Another example of his anger is dealing with the Spirit Bear. The Spirit Bear was calmly looking at Cole. Cole realized that this bear was not afraid of him. So, Cole let out his anger and tried to kill the bear. Instead of Cole hurting…
I have always wanted to hit a dinger since the day I started baseball. Keegan and I were warming up before the semi final game. It started off regular, he throws it to me, I throw it back. Then my team started taking pop ups, but me and keegan still got to warm up because he was starting pitcher and I was catching for him. It was pretty wet outside but that wouldn't stop us from playing our game.…
Phil Robinson is a Philadelphia naïve, at a young age he was introduced to fashion by his father. His father was very strict on presenting yourself in a classy stylish way. He was about his boys looking neat, being clean and well groomed as we grew from boys to men. I took that guidance and as I got older I decided it was something I wanted to share with just not my son, but with many others also. Style is in my blood, I've been doing it for years for family, friends, etc. Helping kids is my passion and always has been. So here is just my small avenue where I can combine both of the things that I enjoy most to create a positive…
As a little girl I always sat and thought about what I wanted to be when I grow up. I could never really come up with an answer but I always knew that I wanted to help little kids because I love little kids they are so little and adorable with a bright future ahead of them, that's just a passion i've always had. I also knew that I somewhat wanted to go inside of the medical field as well. At first I wanted to be a Nurse , Pediatrician, Doctor and so many different things. So one day I was watching an old movie with Queen Latifah and Common named “Just Wright”. In the movie Common was an basketball player and Queen Latifah was an physical therapist. As I continued to watch the movie I kind of enjoy what she was doing and I found interest in…
In my opinion Cole learns that anger is something that you can control if you are willing to and that it takes time to do so. The ways he learned to control it was by performing those daily routines that Garvey and Edwin showed him, which would eventually help him in his recovery. For example in chapter 17 Edwin told Cole “We’re going swimming,” Cole responded “Are you nuts?” this routine was actually soaking in the pond which would later big come a big thing for Cole, helping him relieve his mind and forget about things. At first in the book it did mention that they seemed useless to him, but as time went by he learned the value of them.…
One time when I challenged my own beliefs, I questioned my own skills. It was one of the most crushing and confusing moments of my life. I was indecisive, hesitant, and most certainly doubtful. I couldn’t even imagine myself, an inexperienced sophomore, working in a career major that I’ve never even thought of doing in the first place.…
Plus, he is not blaming people for stuff. Why this is true is, at the end of the book he started showing trust and responsibility and now he is showing owning up to things. The island punishment is getting to know him now on how he acts and respects stuff such as, the food he is given and his shelter. For an example, “‘After an awkward silence, Cole knew he had to say something. “I know that saying sorry about my attitude isn’t enough, but I want you to know that I am sorry.” He paused. “When I was carrying the rock this morning, I realized that I wouldn’t get over my anger unless I quit blaming others for everything. That’s why I got mad the last two days. I was still blaming you guys.”’ (167) This quote is important because he wants to own up to things such as saying sorry to Gravey and Edwin. What this reveals about Cole is, he wants to be the better person, not the one who is really bad and doesn’t think straight about his actions that he is making. This is one reason why I think Cole has changed throughout the story.…
The thing about forgiveness, the undeniable, excruciating truth, is the hardest person in the world to forgive… is yourself. Especially when you’re responsible for the deaths of two of the people you love most in the world.…
For most athletes, it takes hard work and effort to become successful; for others it may come natural so they do not have to work as hard. Usain Bolt, who is a 9 times Olympic Champion, has the natural ability to run track. As a result, he is not forced to work as hard as other track athletes such as Yohan Blake. While Blake is still just as successful, he must put in twice the work of Usain to reach his full potential. Like Yohan Blake, I am one of the people who has to put in hard work and effort to reach my full potential.…
Krista Cynthia Bryan is a kindhearted young lady who is always putting herself before others, making sure to take care of her family when they need her and her friends as well. She’s a natural born leader, quite yet strong, and decisive yet humble. This girl is my best friend, making my life a lot better and influencing me to be a better person. Before meeting her, I had very low self-esteem, expecting next to nothing from myself and doing the bare minimum. We were separated for quite a few years, however, when reunited in 6th grade, observing Krista, I realized that I wanted more for myself. She influenced me to be better, try harder and expect more of myself. As a result, my grades rose exponentially resulting in my placement in advanced…
When asked to write about a childhood experience most people think of the time they lost their first tooth when they were 6, or about the time they started school when they were 5, however, I’m going to write about summer. It wasn’t just any summer it was the summer that I went to the lake with my Dad and Papa. I was about 4 and couldn’t be any more excited about what was going to happen…
