Personal Narrative Essay: High School Soccer Team
Personal Narrative Essay Has there been a time a decision was made for me and I did something about it? Yes, decisions have been for me, either by parents, teachers or friends. At some point in my life decisions had been made, whether it was my parents, siblings or elders.. For example when I was the coach of my high school soccer team, some players agreed and some disagreed with my game plans. My school is a unity school, we had a sporting competition and we had the teams of different groups. Firstly, the name of my high school is Federal Government College, Lagos Nigeria. There are different team of colors at the school like, red team, green team, blue team, purple team, yellow team, and brown team. There are different students in all those teams. I was the coach of the purple team which was also my team, every year the school has a sports competition between the six team, a competition planned by the school board of …show more content…
I use the possession system where we were able to hold the ball longer than the opposition. The purple team is not one of the best on tracks events, but one of the best on field events. The team meets at the field every three days to train. We have different routines like, stretching, sprints, weights and finally ball work. Some of the players didn’t agree with the way I handled the team and the game plans, but I told them to trust me, when some did the ones that didn’t I calmly explained my plans in a better and clear way that they saw reason with me. Then the first game we defeated the opposing team massively by a score of 5-0. Then we qualified to the next round where we won the game and went on to the finals to play the best team in the school. So I just changed the game plan a bit, my players said they all trusted me which made me feel that we could win, and we went on to win the match and I was named the best manager of the

It had been a long and tough game. The sun was beating down on us and we were all tired when all of a sudden the game’s time limit ran out. We were all tense because no one knew the score. The ref said that the game was tied. We all exhaled. We hadn't even realized we were holding our breaths. That meant we all had to do PKs (Penalty kicks) until one team won.…

"France has lost the battle. But France has not lost the war."- Charles de Gaulle. That is a quote I go by as I stand here at the Soccer Academy. I have a memory that really has affected me. That one really embarrassing moment. I have lost my soccer game eleven to four. Those numbers affect the way I play now even though it was about a month ago.…

When I was ten years old I tried out for my local travel soccer team. I did not expect to make it, but by some stroke of luck I did. I started playing and it was not what I was expecting. In the past I averaged a hat trick every game, but travel soccer was a lot different. I started playing defense, but that might be an overstatement, because I did not get a whole lot of minutes. I knew that if I wanted to play more I was going to have to put in more work outside of practice. I started practicing everyday switching from running, to foot skills, to agility training. I probably spent more time complaining about it and there were a few time that my parents had to push me to practice, but I knew that I had to put in the work.…

It’s that mentality that gets in your head that you are winning and you should not try as hard; we played very sloppy soccer in the second half and I myself didn’t run as hard as I had in the previous half. Vanguard came out with a chip on their shoulder and anger inside their bodies. They attacked us from all angles and played like how they were supposed to, passing, shooting and scoring. The intensity of the game picked up and our luck with holding Vanguard scoreless was gone when there left forward shot the ball right over my foot and then into the right corner passed our goalkeeper. The score now was tied 1-1 and I could start to see the change in momentum as the Vanguard players cheered and we started arguing with each other. It reminded me of the exact situation earlier in the first half when we scored. We woke up and played back with the same determination that we had in the first half, and I was finally moving the ball down the field for our offense to score, but we were unable to get a goal into the back of the net. With only 15 minutes left in the game, I knew it was crunch time, live or die, score or go home type of situation. My jersey felt like it weighed twenty pounds with all the sweat bearing down on it. Vanguard continued to press their big, fast and strong guys up the field putting pressure on our defense, and when they scored that second goal, our whole team spirit just seemed to die. Vanguard`s talent had finally broken through just like in the earlier games against us. Now we were the ones losing and it was our turn to score. Yet we had trailed through most of our games anyway, so this was familiar situation. Vanguard continued to improve on their play in the second half and shut down our offense as we tried to score. Our coach took our one of our midfielders and put an extra forward in to try and help score but that left our dense…

We wanted to keep the team fun, enjoyable also competitive. After all of the practice we have done, I told my teammates that this is our year to rise above obscurity. We wanted to make history when we graduate from our school and that’s why we worked hard to win. When I became a junior, I also became the captain for that sport as well, when the season started we won a few meets and then we went to district meets. We won district in an awesome way, all of us were in a row from first until fourth. The whole other teams were shocked however we was not because we believed we could win it. When Track started we won a couple of meets as well, we dominating the sport. It was when we won many meets we were becoming famous in our school and other places as well.…

As a coach, we have to explain and make them understand that they need to work as a team, all together, not for its personal convenience but for the team and the rest of their teammates. Also it works to get the girls together and see who is having some type of issue and finally getting the team and have a conversation about the team, rules and goals. Leave the problems behind and work together. My engagement to this team was my hundred percent, because it was my first year as a coach and I wanted to do really good on my part. I wanted to demonstrate I can be a good coach and a good leader for the girls. The girls were also engaged with the team, they wanted to win and also demonstrate their skills. Everybody wanted to put the effort to make a better soccer team. The communication with the team was really good, we have to meet every day after school, sometimes I had classes and I was not able to go, but they always told me what they did and explain what they did for training. Every day after each practice we discuss what was done and what we could do to improve. The communication was the priority in the team. At the end of the season we evaluate the team,…

By being told to quit something just because I’m not good at it. Back in my 7th grade year when I played football, I was pretty atrocious at everything basically. Trying to run routes against corners, catching, and trying to stay at 110%. I used to play Wide Receiver but they made me change positions because I didn’t try hard enough. They moved me to o-line and I was probably one of the worst players on the team. I only started one game my middle school life as a guard and all I really did was get embarrassed. Missing blocks, not pulling to get the DE, and forgetting the snap count. I didn't play football my 8th grade and my freshman year because my parents said that allergy season was gonna be awful. I was so close to not playing this year,…

It’s game day, and the first time in twenty-three years that we might be able to defeat out school rivals, Turpin. But something didn’t feel like it should, after all it was the biggest day our team’s season. We had immense confidence in ourselves, being the higher raked state team, we expected to win this game then make a large tournament run. Little did we know that the rest of our season relied heavily on this game. Winning or losing this game would not end our season physically, but would emotionally ruin us, ultimately ending our season. The game began with a pleasant, almost soothing blow of the whistle and ended with the blood-curtailing screech of the referee’s dagger, sending shivers down my spin. The roar of our crowd stopped and…

Over the hot summer, I was doing summer workouts for soccer. My goal this year was to make the varsity soccer team and I knew I could do it with the support from my coaches and peers. My coach had said about a month before workouts started, “You have a really good chance at making varsity this year” and this made me want to work even harder in the coming months of workouts. We had been working out for about three months now starting in around February with the indoor soccer practices and each and every day was hard on us all. Workouts were tough on everyone because of all the cardio and strength training we did as well as working on ball skills. Every day over the summer I would arrive home to find myself going right back to my comfy, warm…

It was a Friday night in mid August 1991. I was a noseguard and middle linebacker on defense, depending on the play. I also played right guard on the offensive line. This is the story of a night that could of well ended any hope of being an athlete, on any level, from this point on. I will be telling the story from the defensive side of the ball, due to that is where I was playing when I had five vertebrae, slightly, separated.…

Starting soccer when I was only five years old was challenging because of my October birthday I had to play with all the six year olds. My parents had put me in soccer because I was a young boy filled with too much energy. After playing soccer for about a year I decided I wanted to do more, I loved the sport. I started playing club soccer when I was 7 years old, playing for under the wing of Charley Amblo. This was a training team only, it was not till I was nine that I was started playing for a travel team. This was the beginning of where I learned my leadership, time management, and teamwork dynamics.…
