Unfortunately, my new host parents ostracized me because of my Hispanic origin, whereas they celebrated the other Au Pair with a French heritage. I chose to ignore this to focus on my primary goal and registered for English as a Second Language course at Colorado Mountain College. Here, I met a phenomenal person in my Speaking and Listening instructor. Her classes helped me improve my English, while her compassion made me value my efforts in class. Within a few weeks, my command over English improved exponentially. I actively participated in class discussions and helped my peers with their assignments.
