However, the longer my passion wore the mask, the more the mask began to chisel away. I still wanted to create. I still wanted to help others. I still wanted to innovate. Suddenly, I realized that my mask was more than just a lack of self-confidence. It was my mentality. I was unnecessarily trying to carve a pedestal of prerequisites for my passion. I did not understand that passion only involves dedication. I do not need to be a prodigy to help others. I just have to be motivated and good-willed. I should not try to create a sense of credibility and acceptance for my passion because the existence of my passion is credit enough to pursue it to great lengths. With this mentality, I delved backed into my sketches of adjustable focal length eyeglasses and immersed myself into them. For the first time, I blindly let my passion take the reins. After an entire summer, I had finally developed a precise final product on a CAD software ready for testing and had applied for a provisional patent.
Reflecting back to the FBLA conference, it is evident that failing there allowed me to experience success in my provisional patent. Moreso, without failing, I would not have the renewed and refined mentality that will allow me to pursue my passion of helping others in a college setting and beyond. With this confidence, I will be able to not only better myself, but I will also be able to better the community
