Personal Narrative: Moving To My Home
When I moved to this town, I was an alchemist with a penchant for cigarettes and hair products. Now, I’m a pendulum spiralling into a whirlwind of madness that comes from the acquaintance of the villains that haunt my head.
My city collected the most articulate writers in Illinios, one of which lived across from me in an almost identical fortress like my own. Mr Trench was a lecturer, and a Chicago Cubs supporter. His baseball memorabilia fashioned his entire basement for years until the signed baseballs, player cards and baseball caps flooded the street next to a toppled over garbage can

I am a godparent of an 8-year-old little girl. Before I moved to Houston our bond was tight and still is even though we are miles away. Every day we talk or Skype on the phone. When she has homework that she does not understand she will Skype me and we will do her homework together. Every summer for two weeks she comes to see me or I will go home to see her. As much as I can, I step in and provide when her mother needs help. As she gets older I am sure our connection will continue to grow.…

At the turn of the twentieth century, many American cities were struggling to find their place in the world. One such city was Chicago, Illinois, the focal point of Erik Larson’s The Devil in the White City, a nonfiction ode to history about the events that took place during the World’s Columbian Exposition. In 1893, Chicago was home to more than the World’s Fair; it was also the home of America’s very own Jack the Ripper, Dr. Henry H. Holmes. While a team of the most brilliant architects of the age led by Daniel Burnham raced against time to produce a World’s Fair that could outshine Paris’ Exposition Universelle, H. H. Holmes took his time in methodically building…

If you have ever been bullied, you know where I am coming from when I say that it is something that no one should ever go through. Unfortunately, I have gone through it before and I am glad to have fought through it. I can clearly remember the time when I used to get bullied. My family and I had just moved to Canada a few months ago and I wasn't able to speak English very well at the time. I was so excited to learn everything there was to know about Canada, especially now that I knew that everyone didn’t live in igloos. Before coming to Canada I was told by a friend in India that everyone lived in igloos, of course being six at the time I believed her without questioning it. I was also very excited to see snow for the first time because,…

The holidays are fast approaching and I can't believe it. The leaves have changed colors and are falling rapidly off the trees. It seems like I looked and blinked and an entire year just just flew by, and my now little girl is not so little anymore. I've been going through photos of past Christmases and I can see the growth that has taken place throughout the year. As most of you know, I grew up in the Caribbean and I never experienced snow until we moved to the United States. Christmas for us meant cotton dresses and tees and we were even able to wear shorts as well, because it was summer all year round. Now fast forward to today, and I have children of my own and they need different wardrobes for each season including the holidays. The…

I found the tile of the book is the perfect match for this book. It really does show the true meaning of being evicted. I was honestly kind of ifty when I first open up the book I honestly thought it was going to be boring. It really does show true hardship living in property and it also shows how people go on with their life. I believe I would of went crazy if I was being evicted out of my house. I wouldn't know what to do , it will be exteremly hard to come up with extra money or the thoughts going threw a person head on what to do next. What would happened if they don't have any sources to get them help ? Or all the homeless shelters are full up ?. I just can't image people thoughts once they get a eviction notice. Also , I image…

I have a unique experience that not many of your applicants would have. In the school where 99 percent of the students are Chinese, I was the only foreigner among them. This experience was especially hard because of my opposing reality compared to my expectations before moving to Canada and due to the feeling of isolation by cultural differences. It was my third semester, when the situation got really worse because the one and only Korean friend who used to be in our school could not bare the situation that she left the school and I was left all alone. Along the semester, the courses I took were Geography 12, English 11, and Travel and Tourism 11, which obviously reflected my unstable mental status. I was so depressed and intimidated by the…

“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” My parents aren’t big hockey fans, but I assume this ran through their heads as they decided our family’s fate. Ever since I can remember, my parents have told me the decision to move here was for us and our future. For all the opportunities we wouldn’t have access to if we stayed in Mexico. While there may be a wider range of options in “the land of the free”, is it worth it if none of those options are surrounded by your family?…
