Personal Narrative: Muscle Bound Superhero
When I turned 8, my imaginations derailed me. On this day, I instantly, assume everything became possible as a young kid. All I dream about is being a muscle bound superhero, and saving people from distress. As I wander around the block, I practiced action moves until the street lights kindle up. Since my little cousins were around, it was not hard for them to tag along. I told them that my fortune, was to become a superhero. Each day, I practiced my combat moves, so eventually my mother caught me practicing. As a matter of fact, she enrolled me in Karate, not only this

Daniel Coyle begins his article “How to Grow a Super-Athlete” with a personal anecdote about his daughter, Zoe’s, endeavor to learn how to bat. Despite being athletically inclined, in Coyle’s words, she ‘pretty much stunk” (Coyle 3). Eventually, after abundant misses, Zoe starts to hit the ball, starting with foul balls and ending with a solid hit. This begs the question, what defines talent? Is it innate or learned? In a map of famous athletes’ locations, organized by sport, there are general scatterings of players in some places with more dense congregations in others. This implies that talent is greatly affected by culture, that places where a sport is considerably popular or imbedded in society will have a greater number of talented players.…

Thinking back over my life, I remember what I wanted to be when I “grew up”. I didn’t want to be a typical nurse, astronaut, or singer. I wanted to be the Pink Power Ranger. Why I wanted to be a Pink Ranger was quite simple to a second grader. I wanted to save the world, make a difference, and wear a cute pink uniform. Some were supportive in my quest to become the superhero. Others tried to explain to me that the Pink Power Ranger didn’t really exist. I vowed to show them that I would one day be the Pink Ranger. Looking back, maybe I really was right? Maybe I will transform as my very own version of the Pink Power Ranger?…

To express his believe about stretching one’s limit, the great Guy Finley had once stated, “The limit of your present understanding is not the limit of your possibilities.” Inspired by his quote, I, Giang Pham, believe that I would be a valuable member of McGarvin’s Academic Pentathlon team. Leadership is a very powerful trait that many wish to possess, but only few have the ability to appropriately carry out the task. It is a trait that is not only God-given, but also learned throughout life as we are given many leaders to observe as we journey throughout childhood and into adulthood. With my service in the military approaching 28 years, I have been blessed with the opportunity to serve under some very talented leaders within my varied career in the Air National Guard. I’ve also been given many opportunities to travel to a variety of places and countries that most people that I grew up with in Mississippi only dream of visiting. Since joining the Air National Guard in 1989, it has been a rewarding career both as an enlisted…

My goal is to become either a physical therapist or an athletic trainer and help out many athletes who struggle to get back to their normal body. I had two injuries during two consecutive high school golf seasons: a muscle strain in the back and a collarbone fracture. After a week of physical therapy after my surgery on my right collarbone, I started to be able to carry my backpack with one shoulder and write with my right hand. Two month after physical therapy, I was able to hit my driver. Then I realized something quite surprising; as I started to practice, my driver started to go further and further. My coaches had the same reaction as they both asked me if the story of the collarbone incident was actually true.…
