Although there have been many special days I have had, the one when I went I went to Dallas, Texas with all of my cousins was the best. It all started on a Saturday. My Granny called my brother and I and told us that we were going to Dallas on a train with our cousins in a week and we were going to stay the night at her house. We were so excited, we were already packing for the trip. Finally after six long dreaded days of waiting It was time to go and stay the night with our cousins and Granny at Texarkana. We loaded up in our car and drove to my granny’s house. When we got there our mom and dad told us goodbye and went back home. We went inside and said hi to our grandparents, and then went outside to where our cousins where. We played baseball, football, and kickball until our Granny asked us what we wanted to eat. At one time we all said Chick-Fil-A. So she loaded up and went to get us our food. We played a little bit longer and then saw her car coming down the road, so we went inside and got ready for dinner. After dinner we watched tv and one by one took showers and got ready for bed. We woke up at 4:00 in the morning because our train left at 6:30. We ate a country …show more content…

We started to see weird wavy patterns on the floor. Right away I knew what it was, it was water. We turned the corner and there was a tunnel. Not just an type of tunnel, it was tunnel that had all kinds of sharks around. We all gaped at the marvelous, tremendous sight all around us. Finally it was time to go. My mother, “Regina Hopkins,” has been a positive influence in my life. She has raised 6 kids all by herself as well as earned a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from a City College in Gainesville, Florida. My mother has been through pretty much everything a person can go through outside of war and was still able to be there and provide for all 6 of her kids. In high school, my mother wanted to play football and couldn't because she was a girl and back-in-the-day women were not allowed to play football with the guys. However, she remained strong by raising 6 kids and independently took care of all of us on her own. My mother has several qualities that I would love to develop. The first quality she has is balance; she certainly knows how to make…

Finally, when I moved to New Orleans I started volunteer work at the Children’s Hospital and helped with pop up clinics for the Latino community twice. Overall I found that helping others shouldn't be something seen as duty or mandatory, it should be spontaneous. Through others experiences and hardships we learn and grow as human beings, not only did I enjoy helping others but I felt that it helped me with my problems. Having moved around so much and meet so many people and living by myself so many years I came to truly be thankful for my blessings and specially for my hardships. Hermann Hesse once said, "I have always believed, and I still believe, that whatever good or bad fortune may come our way we can always give it meaning and transform it into something of value." Helping others made me realize that we all need help and that my way to help others would be through their health. It also taught me not to judge anybody, especially if you don't know what they have been through. I am hard believer that everything happens for a reason, and all the weekends I spend watching my parents help others helping others myself made me the determined person that I am today. Finally, the most important lesson I learned was to never give up, no matter how hard the task is or how bad the problem is there will always be someone willing to help and you can always be both sides to that, the helper or the one who needs…

The day before my parents took us to the super market to purchase each girl a new outfit. This kind of thing did not happen very often for our family because my parents did not have much money for food, let alone for clothes. It was special for us to get new, soft, colorful things to wear. I remember my socks were orange and very soft. The joy we experienced that day was almost overwhelming we felt like we were queens. Saturday night my mom gave us a bath in preparation for a perfect Sunday. The bath was a metal tub that we all shared in the middle of the room with water warmed up on our wood stove. We went to bed very happy with all the attention we got that day from our parents.…

Most teenagers do not have a clue about what they want to be when they grow up. Most young adults also do not know where their path is in life. Even some full-blown adults are still trying to figure out their purpose. I was lucky. I knew exactly where I belonged from about the time I was seven up until now, at the decently young age of nineteen. I do not see my path changing anytime soon; in fact, I know it will never change. But, I did not just wake up one day as a child and know what my path was, while that would be impressive. Defining moments in one’s life defines who they are. There were lots of things I experienced in my life that made me realize my purpose, my absolute passion. I had four of these defining moments in my short span of…

After the sausages, of which I ate four, my dad suggested I go for a nap. Grandpa said “don’t go to the room at the very top of the stairs, you can use the bedroom beside the bathroom”. I thought that was a bit strange, I always slept in the room at the very top of the stairs when I was in Grandpa’s house, but I was too tired to protest, so I dragged my weary legs up the narrow stairs and fell into bed and into a deep sleep.…
