The day starts at 7:45 am. The dive group meets at the flagpole to recite the Pledge of Allegiance and say Grace. Upon dismissal, we proceed to the Mess Hall for a hearty breakfast of eggs, bacon, and cereal. Upon taking the last bite, I thought to myself, I hope this is not my last meal. If so, I wish we were eating spaghetti for breakfast.

“Once you commence the dive, we will have 45 minutes dive time”, he explains. “Please check your dive computer and make sure you get back on time.”
The next thing I knew the boat was leaving the dock and we were headed to our dive destination. The water was a gorgeous color of blue and the scene looked like a brochure from a travel magazine. It took us about 30 minutes to arrive at the dive site, but it felt like 5 minutes. The boat stopped, the anchor dropped and before we knew it the Captain was instructing us to get ready to jump in the water.
My thoughts immediately turned into, Will I be able to breathe? The Captain started to call us one by one to jump into the boat. My turn came and while I was nervous, I grabbed my mask and regulator and took the plunge.
The trip to the bottom of the ocean felt as though it took hours, not minutes. I had to equalize the pressure in my ears every few feet by pinching my nose and blowing out little sneezes. When I felt my feet hit the bottom, I was somewhat reassured.
