Personal Narrative: My Career As A Nursing Assistant
I remember one particular quote by Robert Tew that helped me throughout my high school years : “The struggle you’re in today is developing the strength you need for tomorrow.” I have been through many experiences in my high school career. These experiences have changed me into a better person. One of the greatest experiences I got to have in my high school career is becoming a certified nursing assistant (CNA). I’ve always known that I love the nursing field because it is always helping someone and their families. When I was a sophomore, I took Nurse Aide through Iowa Lakes Community College. I received my certification to work as a CNA. Since then, I have been working at the Algona Manor as a CNA. Working at the Algona Manor has changed …show more content…
During my freshman year, I had a lot going on personally. My parents got a divorce the summer before my freshman year, and I also transferred schools. I went through a huge transition with a new school and family life. I transferred to Algona High School my freshman year because I was getting bullied and picked on at my last school. When I first came here, I was struggling with the idea of being somewhere new. I was very nervous about making new friends because of my past experience at school. These two hardship made me become more independent and grow up a lot faster. It made me step out of my box and make new friends. The third hardship I had to go through was in my sophomore year; I lost one of my best friends to breast cancer. My aunt died in October of my sophomore year, and it had a huge effect on me. Her two boys and I were going through a very emotional time. I had to help take care of them and try to take care of myself on top of it. This hardship changed me a lot and taught me to live life to the fullest and to be a caring and loving person. These three hardships in my high school career has changed me for the

I started my career in the healthcare field as a unit clerk. My primary duties were answering the telephone and call light system. After about a year, I wanted to do more so I decided to become a certified nursing assistant (CNA). My duties as a CNA entailed helping patients/residents with their activities of daily living. I quickly realized that I did not want to play that particular role in the healthcare field and that I needed to do more. I applied for the licensed practical nurse program and was accepted. After graduating and passing my state board exam, I worked as a licensed practical nurse for six and a half years before applying for the associate degree nursing program for registered nurses. I was accepted and after completion my career as a registered nurse began.…

Sounds pretty similar to the agency I work for but it sounds like you had a lot more training then we did. Oddly, I was never asked or told to shadow anyone however, I did have a few nurses shadow me. I asked these nurses about it and they told me they weren’t getting paid for their time and I thought that was a little bizarre. I’m guessing that many agencies do not pay people for training after hearing your experience was similar to…

As I was looking for a Physician Assistant program I focused on three main things: research, prestige, and location. I was fortunate enough to discover that Yale PA program exceeded my expectations. As a clinical research assistant, I have had the pleasure to work with great clinicians (doctors and physician assistants alike) who have graduated from Yale Medical School and Yale PA program. Their perseverance, ability to react efficiently and decisively in difficult situations are some of the many qualities that Yale highlights and solidifies in its programs. Furthermore, shadowing one of the physician assistants who graduated from the Yale program gave me a better insight on the rigorously, expectations, and preparations of Yale PA program.…

I have decided to lean to nursing as a career for many reasons. The main reason i decided to turn to this field of work was feeling the need to help people in a way that my younger brother was helped when he was in out of hospitals. During this time i joined the voulanteer morton fire department to get a grasp and sense of working under pressure while remaining calm. Alot of the times i noticed ifyou are in a flusttered sense of mind it is best to leave the situation to someone who is more capable then end up causeing the situation to get much worse possibly causeing someone to get hurt or death. Later on when i began attending south plains i attended and became vice president of the star center student organization for a short period of time…

I don't understand, while being a CNA is hard, it is not rocket science. You basically have to work, and care. So many CNAs don't do either one. I don't know how they go home and sleep knowing that they left their residents soaked, cold, and dirty. Why don't they just go work at a gas station. Very few things make me as angry as when the residents are not getting the care they DESERVE. I want the opportunity every day to make an impact on people's lives in a positive and much needed way. We, future CNA's, get paid for more than simply washing people, making beds and all of the other tasks that go along with the job. We have chosen a profession that demands caring from us. We need to show patience and compassion daily, no matter what. People may think that becoming a CNA is a job just anyone can do. This is not true! It takes a certain type of person to do the work of a nursing assistant. I am proud to be a Future CNA! Yes, I may become "only a CNA" in the eyes of some people, but to others I will be much more.…

My duty as a nurse is to promote good and do no harm and respect the patient as the most basic and universal principle. According to the code, my most fundamental accountability is to the patient. In addition, it is my duty to make the most wise and ethical decisions for what is best for the organization. As a leader, I am self-aware of my values and basic beliefs about the rights, duties and goals of human beings. Unfortunately, here utilitarianism of what is best for the common good outweighs what is best for the individual. Mr. Cole has the right to leave against medical advice and it saddens me the issues they may face being denied home health care, however, it is not justified to withhold information from the physician.
