Nursing, in my opinion, is one of the most significant professions that one can be blessed to acquire. To those who pursue this field know it is a career that requires far more than simply an education even though the knowledge acquired from a degree is extremely important and necessary, by grasping rationale of the laws and regulations that rule nursing. A career in nursing requires someone to have compassion, sympathy, and care for others, especially those who are suffering from pain, illness and lack the understanding of what is happening to them or a loved one. It is a career of humanity, and it is this that first attracted me to a Masters degree in Nursing. My philosophy about nursing is that it is a career that one has to work hard for, but also a career that a person needs to have to a natural affinity for. I also believe one must have a commitment to helping others not expecting anything in return but a smile and knowing when you go home you gave your all. The ability to be a compassionate, caring nurse is what I hope to bring to the Masters degree in Nursing Program, gaining…
Rockwater Insurance is a family oriented business that looks to maintain a closely knit community and work environment. This has changed over the past couple years with Charles Bell, the original owner, stepping down. His sons have replaced him as managing the company and are striving to continue their father’s dream. Robert and Frank Bell are now managing the business and they seem to have some differences in views on how the business should be run. Frank is more of a laid back kind of guy with his employees that call him “Frankie”. Robert is becoming more distant according to his employees.…
Actually, I can’t say with confidence that it’s the radio at all. I’ve swapped it out three times, finally settling on an ancient cassette deck excavated from a musty box in my garage. But it’s not the station, or who’s speaking, or even how modern (or ancient) the radio is. There’s something in the air and it has a home: The Silver Memorial Bridge.…
Becoming a Registered Nurse is considered a grueling process by most people who go through it, whether it is through the Diploma, Associates or Baccalaureate program. The Diploma program has almost been completely phased out as an acceptable program, leaving the Associates and Bachelor programs in play. The Associates Degree in Nursing is usually a 2year program obtained in community colleges, whereas the Bachelor of Science in Nursing is a 4year course done in undergrad colleges. Some of the attraction factors to the ADN over the BSN have included the tuition being cheaper, having fewer prerequisites and finishing the course in less time. Things are however, beginning to change, as the standards of healthcare are becoming more advanced. This is because BSN educated nurses generally exhibit more competence in their practice than those with an ADN education.…
I have heard many people around me saying that you should go walk the Brooklyn Bridge at least once and I never have a chance to fulfill it. Through this opportunity, I called my friend up to accompany me to walk the Bridge for the first time. Based on the information from the history of the United States, the Brooklyn Bridge was completed in 1883 and considered as an engineering marvel for that time. It remains as one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. During mid-1800s, the ferries connected Manhattan and Brooklyn. Ferries was a major convenience transportation for us, the people of that day were used to oars and sails to ride boats. These faster, more reliable ferries helped Brooklyn grow until the bridge was build. When…
Nursing is a noble profession. Challenges are the daily norm and being self-driven by the desire to care is a must. And just as challenging is the task of remaining motivated while in nursing school. From all-night study sessions, trips to library for references on new case studies, never ending group and individual assignments to clinical attachments to social obligations, staying focused on graduating can become a cumbersome task for any student nurses, just like in the case of student nurse Jane who is on her (PRCP Pre-Registration Clinical Placement) which is her last clinical posting before she steps into the world of nursing.…
As a woman, at times it can feel as if society has deemed conflicting roles upon us that we are expected to fulfill all at once. Historically, most cultures have honored the “home keeper” role in which we are expected to take care of our husbands and families. However, as time passes and ultimately, norms and customs evolve, women are more inclined to seek careers that establish an individual sense of purpose. While there are tons of women who successfully handle both the role of nurturer while fulfilling their own, separate goals, how does a woman distinguish how to meet the needs of one role while not feeling as if they are neglecting the other? In Zora Neale Hurston 's novel, “Their Eyes Were Watching God”, the main character, Janie Crawford, tells the story of her life through her three marriages, yet still, leading to the discovery of her own true self. Thought to be a “mirror” of Hurston 's own life, the ending of the novel is in contradiction to her reality, in which she chooses her career over the man she loves.…
Around five, I drive to meet Mark at a restaurant in San Francisco. I chose to go across the Golden Gate Bridge despite a third phobia of mine – a fear of heights. This fear I discovered the hard way when I walked with Mark and some friends across this same bridge for a charity event. I had walked barely a third of the way when I looked down at the water. A dizzying fear took hold. I grabbed the railing and didn’t budge for fear of falling, or as crazy as it sounds, jumping to my death.…
If I could paint anything on Beta Bridge, it would be “make your bed.” This is inspired by the commencement speaker at The University of Texas at Austin in 2014, Naval Adm. William H. McRaven, ninth commander of U.S. Special Operations Command. He started off his speech by telling his audience that “if you wanna change the world, start off by making your bed.” At first, this sounds like a strange comment. However, upon further thinking, I realized this is something to live by. I would paint “make your bed” on Beta Bridge because it serves as a reminder to all that see it that the little things in life matter. McRaven says this task will give you a sense of pride, it will encourage you to do additional tasks, and reinforces that if you cannot…
I walked on a thin layer of ice in high school; every time someone judged me, I could hear the ice slowly cracking under my feet. My life was in a fragile and brittle state during my junior year. I didn’t have the support of my parents, nor of my closest friends at this stage of my life. My own parents, teachers, and classmates had lost faith in me; to them it seemed as if I had ruined my life and that I would no longer succeed. On the contrary, I was determined to be successful because now I had someone special looking up at me as their role model.…
Before school had start most of my old teacher from high school used to tell me that Montclair State University was a really great school at everything. They had graduated from Montclair State University. They all told me great things about this school that I didn’t believed them until I see it with my own eyes. When I had started school, I was amazed with this school I felt like I was home. Most of the things that I like this school have it.…
My time at SUNY Adirondack is soon coming to an end. I have learned a lot and I am ready to continue learning. I want to further my education in order to serve my community with the knowledge and tools gained in the upcoming years. I plan on fulfilling my college education as an Accounting major and eventually securing a job as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). So far, I have made the Dean’s List every semester. I am willing to work hard in order to make the list each semester. My academic standing is very important to me and will remain that way. Also, I am a member of Phi Theta Kappa. I am determined to work hard in order to accomplish my academic and professional goals. I am looking to gain experience not acquired in the classroom setting…
My graduate educational experience will be different from my undergraduate because when I was undergraduate I didn’t know as much and did not have much experience. In my undergraduate I really did not know what I wanted to proceed after graduation. It is a different experience because in my undergraduate I was more in campus and had a few online classes. As for my graduate educational experience it will be online. Before apply for my master’s program, I knew what I wanted to proceed. I will be gaining more experience and knowledge from my graduate education.…
Growing up in a sheltered lifestyle, not worrying about were my next meal would arrive from, or whether if I was going to live throughout the night was never on my mind until I learned from the experiences of the people throughout my missionary trip in India. It was an unforgettable experience that altered my life, and left a lasting impression on me. I had volunteered at a psychiatric housing home which housed over hundred plus people who were all mental ill. My missionary group and I had spent a month living with the patients, assisting them in any way possible, but most importantly seeing their point of view on life through their eyes.…
Coming into my first quarter of college I did not know what to really expect. I was very nervous and thought to myself if I could actually be successful in college. As the quarter went on, yes it was difficult at times, but I managed to work hard and get through everything. I have had good experiences and I have had bad experiences. I have had a mixture of these experiences throughout my classes. Academically I did a relatively good job. Although most of the time I was lazy and watched netflix a lot, towards the end of the quarter I did better on fully completing my work as well as watching less television.…
