My family mostly lived in the Middle Eastern country Jordan, until my grandparents came to America and had my father. Before coming to America, my grandfather lived in Fuheis for all of his life and worked in a cement factory. In early 1963, he married my grandmother, and soon after, they moved to the US on a massive commercial boat trip over with hundreds of others in order to look for new opportunities. After 6 months, their trip had finally ended, and they arrived in America in and had my father in 1963, and his siblings in later years. They raised them in America for 7 more years until his father had passed away, after which his mother took him back to live in Fuheis, to be with her family. …show more content…

To my family, the American dream is very much a dream of opportunity. My grandfather and father both came to America to pursue something that was unavailable to them in their original country, and so they came somewhere that had the resources to give them a better life to work towards. America means the same to me as it did to them, as I believe that America offers ample resources to succeed for those who are willing to work for them. Those resources aren’t handed out, and they require work to obtain, but they are there for anyone who can reach them.
Obviously, my parents moving to America had had a massive hand in shaping both them, my brother and I into who we are today. As first generation Americans, my brother and I are more familiar with the culture and language here than anywhere else. We have minimal knowledge of Arabic, as we never officially learned as children, and hadn’t put the time to learning since. My family as a whole has adapted to American culture well, as we all speak fluent English, know how to act,
