My greatest influences are my parents and my brother. My brother suffered from Guillain- Barre Syndrome when he was eight. He lived in the hospital on an artificial ventilation for 97 days and later he had to continue physical therapy for at least ten years as he was completely paralyzed. My parents and my brother devoted their few years completely for his treatment. Today, my brother is a successful engineer working in the bay area. I learned that with dedication, determination and diligence we can achieve our dream in life…

Today was the day I would get my hunting license and finally be able to enjoy the one thing that both of my parents enjoyed too. It seemed like it took years and years to complete the online section of the class, but now it was time for the in person section. It seemed like forever before my dad and I made it to the Oregon Gun Club building.…
My breath is soft and slow, and the only thing that I can hear is the faint howling of the wind. I pull back the string and wrap my fingers around the arrow. I aim and let loose. The arrow flies and hits right on the target. Archery is one of the things that I live for, as well as soccer and listening to music. My culture is what I do on a day to day basis and what is a large portion of my life.…

I second the fact that lately it has been very crazy. I agree with you about it being very easy to work with people around the world. Although I think that language could get in the way. I really look forward to going over seas to be able to get the experience. This is one thing that I really can’t wait to experience in the military.…
What comes to your mind when you hear the word hero? My kind of hero is one that will try as hard as they can even if they know they can’t do anything to help it or make it better. My kind of hero is one that will fight even if it wont get them anywhere. My kind of hero is one that will be selfless when it comes to others. And when I think of a hero I think of a very strong special somebody that will do anything for anyone just to consider there feelings. My kind of hero is my little man Wyatt.…
My heart leaps out of my throat and I gulp as the creature’s pale white eyes glare into my soul. The intoxicating smell of blood floods my nostrils. Blood slowly trickles down her chin and her once friendly face is now without emotion. Taking a step back, I glance behind me and see my razor-sharp machete lying on the ground, no more than twenty feet from me. I glimpse a final time at my best friend and bolt over to my machete, picking it up quickly. I then sprint straight for my backyard a few blocks away.…
With ever story of victory, comes a drowning idea of failure. Throughout our live, these battles are fought, taking not only mental strength, but physical as well. Some of these battles are chosen, while the rest flank from behind. With this in mind, a story of victory must be told, on behalf of my Aunt, Joenell. Her battle took place in April, of 2009, she went to the Suttee Delta hospital, in Antioch California for a doctor’s visit, for fear that something was wrong, during this visit she informed her doctor that she felt a not on her left breast. Soon after, she had a mammogram, and an ultrasound done, revealing three cancerous lumps. As the doctor went into detail, she started to realize the gravity of the situation. For the first time; at the age of 59, she was confronted with the most life threating event she had ever faced. So for a second opinion, she went to the Epic Cancer center, also in Antioch California. Certainly, the last thing anyone would like to hear during a doctor’s visit, she knew there would be some decisions to be made, time to study up.…
One day me and my friend John and my uncle Snowman we went to go hunting in the woods and we drove around the place for a good spot to hunt. As we were driving around for a spot we saw found an abandoned place me and my uncle and friend were thinking about it so we decided to go in the place. As we went into the abandoned place we walked far into the place. We had an app on my uncles phone that how far we are from the truck and it said 30.7 miles away. Me and my uncle were surprised how far we were from his truck and how long we walked. As we were walking we heard branches breaking so we layed down and crawled towards the sound.…
The first time in my life that I ever experienced true anger and fear was in the sixth grade. A little before Thanksgiving Break, I was diagnosed with malignant melanoma, a type of skin cancer, in my lower back. I had a mole there that was removed earlier that year, and the test results on it had come back positive. I did not find out until later, but when my mom sat me down across from her to talk, I knew something was wrong. It was then that she told me what was going on, and I broke down in tears. I had never experienced fear such as I did then.…
Over the summer, I moved into a new house with my mom and brother. This will be approximately the twelfth time I have moved houses in my lifetime. The twelfth time I have packed up my life and relocated. The twelfth time I have seen my mother prevail through trying times.…
“Son, I’ve told you to get up, we’re going to miss the deer!” It’s not that I don't like to hunt I love hunting, I just don't wake up at 4 o'clock in the morning.”Dad, why can’t the deer wake up at 9 or 10 in the morning?” “Quit being a baby come on and get a shower and your clothes on.” I got out of bed and got ready, before my dad like always, we were going to the ole back woods were the deer think they are safe, and they are just not from us. We load up our crossbows, rifles, and shotguns all in the old pick-up truck we have decked out for hunting, it’s a camo chevy with orange trims a tail cover to keep our gear and soon to be trophy dry from weather. As we ride my dad gets hopeful for a 12 point stud, but as for me I wouldn’t mind getting…
It was a perfectly normal Saturday night, until I sat on the couch. I expected to enjoy a funny movie with my dad, but instead I got a trip to the hospital. I sat on the couch, and then I felt a sting in my elbow. At first, it felt like I got a shot at the doctor, but it slowly got worse, and felt more like a knife slicing into my elbow. I winced and sprung up from the couch. I squinted and my eyes scanned the spot where I just sat down. Aha, I thought. There was a small piece of plastic, and it looked like it broke off from a container.…
Growing up in Thurmont, Maryland, near the Catoctin Mountain National Parks and Cunningham Falls State Park, I was always considered an outdoor kid. My parents got me interested in hunting and fishing at an early age. Hunting became my true passion since my first hunting experience at the age of nine. I have also continued my interest of the outdoors by learning to shoot competitively, I began to shoot trap at the age of 13. Through many practices and competitions, my shooting ability has greatly improved and I am currently a nationally-ranked competitive youth trap, skeet, and sporting clays shooter. I have been able to travel to several different states to compete. Competing in different states has allowed to me learn different laws and regulations of these states and how they help protect the outdoors.…
