Personal Narrative: My First Time In United States
The first time I came to United States. My first time in United States was scary but yet fun. I came over with my mother, my father and my little brother. I was only 9 years old and didn’t speak any English. My father was the only one that knew good English because he was born and raised in New Jersey. To begin with, not only was I scared when I came to United States I was about to learn a new language. Before we came over my dad had flew over first a couple weeks before to find us a place. He rented a house in Manassas Virginia and that was our home for the next year. I had to start school. My first day at school was terrifying I couldn’t communicate with my teacher because I didn’t know how to speak English. Fellow classmates would ask me questions I didn’t …show more content…
After several months of going to school I was starting to understand my classmates and I was also able to have conversation with them. I started to enjoy going to school I even sigh up for after school programs. A year went by and my father bought our first house a few minutes away from where we were previously living at. This new house was huge, two floors five bed rooms and three full bath rooms. The house was nice and all but I felt like I had started from zero again. Since the new house was in a different district that meant that I would have to go to a new school. I was sad because I wouldn’t know anybody at the new school. Surprisingly within the first week of school I was getting along with most of the kids in class. As time went on I was now speaking good English and had lots of friends. When summer vacation came we took our first trip back to Puerto Rico after two years to visit our friends and family. My entire family was so happy to see us and for how much I’ve grew and how fast I had learned

The last day of school came quickly and I had to say goodbye to everybody. This was pretty sad for me because of how long I knew everybody at school(I’ve spent at least a thousand hours at school) and this made me be bonded to a few people at school. The whole experience was sad but it wasn't nearly the hardest part of the transition of countries. The last weeks Me and my family went to chicago for one last time. It was around this time that I started to get anxious about my move to Poland. I would sit in my room and think to myself What if I don’t like Poland? What if I can’t learn the language there? What if the school there isn't nice? What if it will be a bad place to live? Looking back on it I think that the reason that I had much more anxiety moving to Poland then I did when Moving to Chicago was partly caused by the fact that I had grown up a bit in the two years that we were in Park…

The day started off as any normal day. My mother woke me up and said “we must go.” Her voice sounded very urgent for what I thought was just a trip to the grocery store. My mom laid my outfit on my bed and packed by book bag; that’s when I figured out that I was starting school. I wasn’t entirely oblivious to the fact that I was going to familiarize myself with a completely different environment, but I just thought I had a little more time to prepare. Well, it turns out that I was wrong. You see, I wasn’t your average pre-schooler who was nervous about making friends. I was the immigrant child who had never spoken a word of English.…

Everything was great until I went to school for the very first time. I remember feeling scared and out of place. Everyone around me spoke a language that I did not understand. It was not until a few days of going to school that a teacher finally spoke to me in Spanish and explained that everyone was speaking English. I knew the language as “lengua de el gringo,” which translates to “tongue of the gringo”.…

Above all, language barrier was the biggest issue. First a few weeks, I was like a breathing statue who could not talk. I blushed like a tomato even before I opened my mouth. It was not only because of my poor English but also because of my lack of confidence. The first day in College of Marin, the lecture sounded like, "Let's,, blah ..you.. and blah blah.." From the next day, I recorded the lectures and listened to them at home. Also, I used to "draw" the teacher's cursive note on my notebook and spent time at home to figure out what it meant. At night, I watched movies like Spider Man with English subtitle and dictionary beside me.…

Throughout my life I have encountered many circumstances that have shaped me into the person I am today. I was born in Moroleon, Guanajuato, Mexico. I attended school in Mexico all the way to second grade. In the summer of 2006 I moved to Cumming, Georgia. It was the hardest thing to do because I left everything that I care the most about. We lived in a trailer which was not the nicest place and in the middle of the forest. I started school at the beginning of August. I had always loved school so I was so excited for the first day. I knew it was going to be hard because I would have to conquer so many obstacles on the way. At this time the only English I knew was probably counting from one to ten and some of the colors. My Father knew some…

Before I came to The United States, I worked in several jobs in my natal country, Dominican Republic. The most of them were not exactly the kind of job that people would enjoy. I have worked under the hot Caribbean sun, lifting and carrying heavy bags of sand at a construction site, I have washed mountains of plates at a restaurant kitchen, I have sweated for ten hours a day working with melted metal at a jewelry factory. But none of these compare to the nightmare…

On a beautiful Sunday morning, I got a call from my grandfather from America after 9 years. When my mom told me that it’s your grandfather, I ran to the yellow, old phone. When I heard the first words that my grandfather said to me, it felt so great that even words couldn’t describe it. We talked for many hours and while talking to him I realized how great, smart, and wonderful my grandfather was. Then I handed the phone to my dad because he had important things to talk about. After the call was ended, my dad told me the best news I can hear. He told me that “We are moving to America.” I was so excited that my heart was pounding super hard and felt like that my dream came true. After few months of shopping and packing, we took a long, exhausting…
