“We’re moving to America tomorrow” was what my mother said to me on April 21, 2007. I was playing with my toys when she told me the news and considering we had regularly joked about moving to America for as long as I could remember, I thought she was just messing with me. The next day, I realized that she was serious than ever.…
Let me start off with my mother's journey to America. It was 1985 when her parents decided it was time for a fresh start. It was very difficult to come to America legally, so they made their journey by traveling to other countries. They left Cuba and traveled to Spain where my grandfather found a job as a farmer. They lived in Spain for almost 2 years before they gathered enough resources to travel to Mexico. The journey from Mexico to the USA was very easy for them because they had a family member who knew their way around. They struggled for many years in America but soon became legal citizens. My mother later on went to college and completed her bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Miami. My grandparents purchased the…

Leaving your country is always a difficult decision, and whoever has experienced it understands the sacrifice it entails. When I left Poland at 18, I thought I was going to be in paradise, but to my disappointment it was far from that. I had to learn a new language and work hard to provide for myself. What kept me motivated was the hope for a better future and an independent life.…
Just two days after coming to this land, I was sitting in a large classroom trying to recite the pledge of allegiance in a large public school. My life in America took me by shock and I felt unprepared. I struggled with basic academic courses initially while my peers glided through easily. Moving to America has been one of the great challenges I have faced and still continue to struggle with. However, my grandfather’s words constantly reminded me of my purpose in life and with diligence and great perseverance, I accomplish and learn everyday.…

It was a cold morning on the 20 of December, that morning I woke up sleepy as a sloth. I didn’t have school that day and from my room I could smell the beans been cocked. The atmosphere at home didn’t feel right, I felt like if there was something going on and I was the only one that didn’t know. My mom and sister looked suspicious. My house was small, it had two bedrooms and one bathroom. My sister got on her blue BMX bike and went out, I didn’t know where she was going but she went faster than a missile. Out of nowhere people started coming, more and more people, I counted 27 people including an 8 years old buy that fall asleep as soon as he got to my house. I was freak out and ran to my mom and I ask her, mom what’s going on who are these people, and she told me, my love we are going to America.…
In Northern and Central America, there are thousands upon thousands of people who travel to the United states to try and solve their family’s financial crisis. A truly surprising idea; if people decide to work so hard for their families away from them, why not try to fix their problems where they are? The reason for this being brought up, is traveling to somewhere ‘better’ such as the United states will not always bring a much better fortune. The danger that ensues with traveling up to the US is far too dangerous, with gangs willing to rob, beat, or rape anyone that passes and police that show no mercy in brutality. Along with the dangers of just traveling up there, people in the United States can stand rather racist towards anyone they do not like.…
I came back from Belgium last Friday May 20th.I was attending my sister's wedding and on my way back I enter through Chicago since that was the close way to come back to Missouri. When I passed through immigration checking they denied me the entrance into the United States. They cancel my student visa F1 and they send me back to Panama on the Saturday morning.…
Eventually the day came, I was getting ready to come to the U.S.A but I didn't wanted to leave. My plane ticket and all the other things were already paid for so there was no going back. It was so hard saying goodbye to my family as well to my country, but even if I cried, I couldn't do anything about it. Ones I was in the sky looking down to my country, crying like a little baby, I fall more in love with it, because from up top I could see my whole country. When I was…
It was the time when Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump were candidates for the election of the president. When I came to the US for the first time it was like I am blind and could not see anytime because I was new to all the roads that were going we our road, on top of us, etc. In the the US they use to say that if you don't know how to drive then you are without legs, if you don't know the roads then you are blind, if you don't know English then you are dumb. When I came to the US I knew how to speak English a little bit. It was very difficult to settle in US. When I came to the US it was hard for me and my family to settle it this culture.…
People often say things about how the United States, with its revolutionary political and economic system, must have been around for a long time in order to achieve the world standing it holds today. This isn’t the case though. In fact, when compared to great civilizations like the Roman Empire which lasted almost 12 centuries, many would say that the United States is still in its infancy. Much in the same way, the political and economic systems the U.S. is famous for are seen to be derived from past civilizations as well. But this of course leads us to asking the inevitable questions of where did it all begin, and what caused people to settle here in America of all places. In order to answer this however, we have to look back past explorers and crusades. Past the kings, uprisings, revolts, and trade routes. We must go back in time to the Roman Empire itself, specifically in the year 476 BCE; the time when everything was falling apart in Rome.…
When I was younger, I used to dream about living in the United States. In January 1999, when my parents decided to send me to Atlanta to finish my education, I thought I was still dreaming, but my dream came true. Then, I realized that my hopes and expectations were different from the reality.…
