When I was seven years old, my father left me and my family to pursue a new future in the United states. He wanted to give his family opportunities he never had. The days soon became months and the months became years. During this time my family was getting ready for another vast transformation that brought us to America. Just two days after coming to this land, I was sitting in a large classroom trying to recite the pledge of allegiance in a large public school. My life in America took me by shock and I felt unprepared. I struggled with basic academic courses initially while my peers glided through easily. Moving to America has been one of the great challenges I have faced and still continue to struggle with. However, my grandfather’s words constantly reminded me of my purpose in life and with diligence and great perseverance, I accomplish and learn everyday. My own struggles through academic courses in America provided me with expertise which taught me how to rise through adverse circumstances. During my time in high school, I started volunteering at the STEM Academy where I would teach young kids and participate in extracurricular activities with them. My personal academic struggles inspired me to help young kids who might not have the same help that others receive. The immense amount of satisfaction I receive by volunteering at the STEM academy teaches me to push through my academic success and accomplish my
