My First Treats on the Streets

I am outside today with a couple other S.S. Soldiers we saw a Jewish man who had some weird curls so we decided to stop him and surround him and make fun of his hair and outfit. Many of the S.S. Soldiers have taken over homes of the Jews. Also today is the last day for all the Jews to move into the ghetto. While the Jews are walking to the ghetto some kids are standing on the sidewalk while screaming and throwing things at them one girl was even screaming “Goodbye Jews.” Once the Jews got into the Ghetto many of us were sitting or standing in the snow giving all the Jews their cards.…

There has been many cases in which I have helped an outsider feel welcome. One time in particular is when I played tag with this little boy at church since he was new and no one else played with him. Originally, I was outside eating candy and talking to my friends at church. I noticed that this little boy was standing all alone watching all the other little kids play without him. I thought that maybe he was upset so I went over to him and asked if he wanted the rest of my gummy worms. He seemed nervous at first, but eventually he started talking to me. I learned that he was five years old and he was visiting his grandparents for the weekend. His older brother was outside playing basketball with some of the other older boys at the church, and…

As the single child in a family with working parents, I spent the most time of my childhood living and hanging around with my dog. This experience might be one of the reasons that I am very compassionate to animals and sensitive to people’s needs. My voluntary work is in a welfare house called Alenah's home. I love working there because I like seeing the smile face of the children there – even some autism babies don’t smile facially, I believe they can feel the love when being caressed softly.…

I woke up to the sound of my alarm going off. "Would you turn that shit off." I heard James Kennedy, my foster father, yell. I quickly stopped my alarm and got up to walk downstairs. While walking down the stairs i slipped and fell straight on my ass bone. "Why can't you even walk down the stairs correctly." My foster father muttered while walking to the kitchen. I finally gathered myself together and walked into the kitchen. My foster father sat at the table reading the newspaper. "Look at this mexican f*g." My foster father said pointing to a photo of a man with long hair pulled back into a ponytail. The title read "Lin-Manuel Miranda broke the record for Tony nominations." I read the first sentence of the article about this Lin dude and…

I was never a dog lover. My kids always wanted a dog. I dug my heels in but eventually, they wore me down with chorus’ of “please can we get a dog?” Begrudgingly, I began looking for a dog. It was to be a Christmas present for my kids, an older dog, a trained dog. I knew that I did not have the patience for training and I knew that when kids say they will help; I knew exactly what that meant.…

In fifth grade, once every week, I would be pulled out of my regular class to participate in a gifted math class. We would solve puzzles, solve problems, and play games that would get our minds to think. I do not remember much from this class, but I do remember the week we spent drafting our dream house on paper. We had specific guidelines to follow regarding the measurements, and what needed to be contained in the house. Simple things like a restroom, two bedrooms, a kitchen. Otherwise, we were set free to do as we pleased. I remember this because I became charmed by solving the problems that come with drafting a home. Making things make sense, and fit, was frustrating, but in a way that motivated me to keep going at full speed. That is why I seeked out an architect to shadow.…
