Personal Narrative: My High School Diploma

My artifact is a stepping stone for some. Others might be their biggest and most rewarding accomplishment of their lives. I had chosen my High School Diploma for my artifact. Not because it was rewarding in the educational sense, but rewarding in the person I found that I have become and will continue to be. The thirteen or so years of school that some say we were “forced” to go through was the most life changing years of my life, where I found myself. In this essay I’ll focus more on the “high school years” since this is about my diploma and the person I realized that I am, and still becoming with all the lessons that I was taught prior to my artifact. This was the year I found who I was, and the person I wanted to be. I still continued my love for science, but in a different way. I found that I wanted to join the medical field to become a physician’s assistant. I learned to appreciate all the last’s, my last soccer game, my last homecoming, my last prom. I gained so many memories during this year that will last me a lifetime. I learned many different things about myself I once didn’t know. I learned that I wanted to stay closer to home, that I loved kids and volunteering for my community, and the biggest lesson I learned was to always be myself. After receiving my diploma and taking the millions of pictures with my friends and family, I realized that this couldn’t be it. That I wanted to do this again, that I wanted to keep building myself as a person. That this diploma is representing all the years of hard work I had put into my education. That wasn’t it though, it represents all the memories, the crazy nights, the things I had to do to get myself here. I learned so many things prior to my artifact, things that had changed me as a person for the better. Looking at my artifact, I see how it resembles me and the person I still have yet to
