Personal Narrative: My Journey To Iowa State
On my journey to Iowa State, I was hoping to make my new friends and memories. Experiences that I would always remember with joy. So far, my adventure has been fulfilled with great experiences. My freshman year of college I notice I had a common routine that I would follow everyday. It consisted of home, walking past the Campanella, and lastly my to go place, Gilman hall. Now, I am a sophomore and I still follow the same routine everyday.

The start of my routine beings with my home, a place where I can be myself and listen to Adel song’s as loud as I want. Where I can let my inter designer decor the apartment to my liking by adding all different shades of grey and arts. This places symbolizes peace and quite. Its where I learned to cook my first meal and bake my first batch of chocolate cupcakes. Every morning I leave my home, I know that when I come back I will be welcome with loud barks and waging tails from my two dogs Jasper and Oliver.

After, arriving at campus I walk to my classes passing through the Campanile, it is not only a historic landmark of Iowa State, but to me it hold a personal meaning. Going back to my first day of college I noticed the

Iowa State University was founded in 1858. Its campus started off having a generic, yet innovative layout; it had "an open central campus with a road encircling the buildings" (Zanish). Throughout the years, the layout of the campus changed drastically due to the additions of new buildings and destructions of old. Some buildings that still exist to this day on campus are: the Hub, Morrill Hall, Sloss House, and the Campanile. The changes to the layout of the campus were originally decided by the Heads of Architectural Engineering and Landscape Architecture with recommendations from O.C. Simonds and the Olmstead Brothers. However, in the 1960's, a University Architect was appointed and given the responsibility. Every building and piece of artwork on campus serves a purpose or has historical value to the University. For instance, Carrie Chapman Catt Hall has an intriguing history that dates back to when it was first built in 1892, and has a meaningful design with unique and historical aspects.…

Everyone knows the intersection on Hoover and Jefferson. It’s where students and faculty and neighbors of the community for a moment in time all come together. That intersection represents not only ones entrance and exit from the “USC bubble,” but provides a moment of realization that there is life beyond the classrooms, the books, and even the 2 mile “Fruber” radius around USC. See USC, provides the opportunity for one to reach their goals, to take their dreams and make them a reality. However, sometimes it takes a whole community and a 30 second traffic light to get you where you need to go.…

I came to North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in the fall. I suffered from depression my junior and senior year of high school. I was never officially diagnosed, because I lied to every therapist my mother sent me to. I could not be honest with anyone but myself at the time. However, I thought things would be different when I came to college. I thought I would be able to open up to people again, but I never anticipated that I would get worse. I thought college would cure me, for some reason. Ironically, I got even worse my first semester in college. My previous burdens added on to the pressure of getting good grades, being involved on campus, and trying to make friends. It was all too much for me. It also didn't help…

I always wanted to go to college growing up, but because of my family, along with my sisters and myself, were born and raised in a refugee camp in Nepal, I had a feeling that college was a dream that would not come true for me. In 2012, we came to Salt Lake City, Utah. The school I did was from 9th grade. After resettlement in the United States, my parents are still struggling to look after the educational future of me and my sisters. My family said if I could find a way to pay for college. I began to apply for many scholarships, which would help to fulfill my dream and desire.…

I ended up going to Richland Community College due to my lack of education and the consequences of slacking during high school. But neglecting school work has finally come to a toll as I took the ACT and the SAT with terrible scores due to my testing anxiety. I’ve come to Richland Community College for assistance and for a better start on my education. Hopefully…

When I first started at Napa College, I knew that getting involved was going to be very important. However, I didn't know it was going to be a lot more complicated on my behalf to do so. This is because, when I first came to Napa Valley college, I had also just obtained my first job. The job which would allow me to help sustain myself and help my family financially. I was not used to this type of schedule when I first came into Napa College. This Is because I didn't know how to manage my time, and simply didn't know what to make as my major primary. I was confused whether to make school or make work a primary. So, I ended up making them both as a priory, which meant dedicating half and half to each. Later on, I found out that I didn't have…

Most colleges randomize living arrangements, but I appreciate how UChicago hand creates a home and community for students. House traditions at UChicago like Breckinridge and Henderson break the reputation the school has for being the place where “fun goes to die”. Customs like these combined with over 354 student run organizations offer virtually any creative outlet one could want and to me, there is an unnoticed beauty in just having the options available. It creates a dynamic where opportunity is encouraged and endless.…

Coming to Ohio Wesleyan gave me a chance to explore the world around me but most importantly explore myself. When teens graduate from high school, they have a strong sense of purpose and feel confident about themselves and what they believe in. But when they enter college life, that is adult life, they find their ideas being challenged by the people around them. I wanted to face this challenge, not that I thought of myself being right at all times but because I wanted to grow more both emotionally and intellectually by interacting with different people who have different opinions than my own.…

In addition to it, on a table against a wall placed cupcakes and candies which make the ground floor smells warm and inviting and blessedly familiar. There is a pool table on one side of the lounge and a table tennis table on the other side beside couches. In the middle are three elevators and from across is a wall of mailboxes. It would take approximately a minute to get to the floor that I live in, the 20th floor. Step out of the elevator after the sound “ding”, the carpeted floor gives it a wonderfully homely character. My room is a double split room, it is allocated evenly on both sides and is furnitured with essentials such as closet, table and mattress on the base. As I jump on the bed, the bed-springs does not creak and the mattress is very soft to lay on. When open up the window, the sound of the city mixed with the sound of wind can be heard clearly along with the sunset and city view outside my window is quite a sight to behold. The throw pillow in bright global textiles and the traditional patterned bedding that I brought all the way from my own country, China, lightened this little room. All these small parts all take parts to build up a home feeling which is one of the main reasons why Lawrinson Hall is my favorite building on campus.…
