My father since I remember he smoked and was alcoholic. My mom didn’t have primary care during her pregnancies and she didn’t take any prenatal vitamins. I was born at home with the assistance of “la partera”. When I was born I was rejected and I had the psychologic absence of my father. My first years of life I had a normal development. I was a happy child, even though living within poverty and suffering struggles by the consequences of my father’s alcoholic addiction. During my childhood my mother was my role model she had not any addiction and she had a strong spirituality. Since I was very little she taught me to love God, Mom gave me spirituality that helped me to overcome many of my worries, fears and difficulties at that time. I felt God as a real father. I was so happy in the secondary school in my town. I was involved in sport activities at school, and I was a good student. My best subject at school was science and my weakest subject was math. I had always the support of my siblings and I was in love for first time. I had a beautiful life at school I felt respected and love for many people. At home it was a little different and I also had responsibilities. My relationship with my siblings were no so good, for a time I preferred be with my friends than be with my sisters. My older sisters had an important influence in my life. I hardly could take my own decisions. The relationship with my parents were limited, I do not remember listen to my parents talking to me about sex, but my mother taught me a lot of values, respect and my father gave me courage to keep studying. Besides going to school at this age, having responsibilities at home I was involve in sports and in religious activities. During my adolescent years I did not have any addiction I was afraid of those things as well as my

The advice that was given to me about writing my personal statement is that whatever I wrote, it must be a statement that came directly from the heart. I’ve found that in order to do this, I must actually write about my heart. When I was born, doctors discovered that I had a ventricular septal defect. The defect needed to be repaired, or I would have been wheelchair-bound and not lived past my fifth birthday. The experience of my heart surgery was not only life-altering for me, but for my parents as well. I was their first-born child, and they had just purchased their first home. It is hard enough to learn the ropes of becoming a parent - but to be the parents to a very ill child was something they had never prepared for. They always…

These are the problems that have truly tested my abilities and beliefs and made me think carefully.…

Most children develop pretty similarly. They are born, they learn to crawl then walk and then run. My life didn’t start that way. I was born in February of 1994 in Redwood City, California to two loving parents. My parents were in their late twenties when they had me and were anxious to start a family. They had been married for seven years by the time I was born so I was brought into a very stable environment. Although my mother had taken good care of herself throughout her pregnancy, my health upon birth was not what they expected it to be. My mother recalls seeing me for the first and asking the nurse what was on my back. It was soon realized that I had a closed meingocele on the lower section of my back meaning that I had Spina Bifida.…

Growing up can be challenging even with the ideal surroundings. Your teen years are even more puzzling because you seem to be stuck in between being a child and an adult. Throw in not having a father or mother around and life gets difficult. The year 2001 was a difficult year for my family and the nation. My life growing up wasn’t picture perfect, but in one very long month I learned that kindness from those around will help you endure and survive.…

Let’s start in the beginning, (very biblical I know but bare with me on this; it’s my first time). As I predicted, I was conceived as an accident, my father being a big time criminal and heroin addict (along with many other hard drugs I’m sure). My mother was going through a very tough stage in life where she felt unsettled by her parents for some reason, became a punk of some kind, would away from home incessantly, take all sorts of revolting narcotics and most possibly have a lot of sex with various guys. I’m not sure how my mum and dad actually met, that is a riddle to be solved, but I do know that they had a little flat in London and were living together with two dogs, one of which a violent Staffy. Once mum had found out that she was pregnant with me my father lost it. Every now and then he’d beat her and hurl abuse at her. I’m not sure what he was like sober; my mother says that he was never to be seen so. He was always wired on something.…

In 1997, when I was 34 years old, my mother passed away due to Multiple Sclerosis. She was blind and paralyzed for years before she passed away. She was truly an inspiration to me and other people. Her faith was strong and she lifted everyone up due to her positive attitude and faith. "Life span developmental theory defines development as a process of adapting to the constant flux of influences in our lives" (Broderick & Blewitt, 2015, p. 481). During the middle adulthood part of my life, I continued to adapt through growth, maintenance, and regulation of loss (Broderick & Blewitt, 2015). It was during the middle part of my life that I decided to go back to college to finish my education. While in my 40's, I earned a Bachelor degree, and 2…

Learning from mistakes is a key part of life. I myself have had to learn from my mistakes. Over the summer I cut my foot outside. I spent the whole night in the worst hospital, then I got 18 stitches in the bottom of my foot. It also set back my ability to play football. My mistake was going outside without shoes, now I wear my shoes all the time.…

Football has always been a big part of my life. As a young boy I would day dream of making insane touchdowns, making tackles that would leave man stuck in the ground, and even winning the heisman trophy. In 7th grade I had begged my mother endlessly to sign me up for pee wee football because she would always worry about the risks of football. After finally getting her to sign me up, we went straight into the season. I chose to play running back because as a 12-year-old I was remarkably fast having timed 5.3 in the 40 yard-dash. After a few weeks in the season we approached the playoffs and found out our opponent for the first round of the playoffs were the jaguars who were undefeated. Our team didn’t have the best chemistry on…

My childhood is something I don’t often reflect on. There were good times as well as bad, and unfortunately, it’s hard to weigh out which ones affected me the most. I was a normal child, a little on the rambunxious side, and often felt that if there was something that needed to be said, I wanted to say it…so I did. I remember the first time I decided to brave ‘the rapids’, and everyone thought it was funny, but after a while, that didn’t bode well with my parents because sometimes I said the wrong things at the wrong time. When that happened, I was corrected very quickly, and sometimes, my family would talk loud and fast so that I couldn’t have the chance to jump into the conversations.…

    1. Childhood is an amazing time in life. There were the good and bad experiences while others were scary. Thinking back, reflecting and reliving those moments made me realize I had and an amazing childhood. It feels like just yesterday, I was running around playing hide-and-seek with the wind blowing through my little ponytails. There were many games I recall loving as a child. Ring around the Rosie, ludo, hopscotch and many more. I was hyper and excited for those always. I recall most children from the neighbourhood would gather at the park and we ran around like crazy just to have fun. Looking back at that moment I don’t know what we were thinking! My most enjoyable childhood moments would be between myself and two other friends named Faraz and Anjo. I use to have a medium size red toy truck made out of metal. Anjo and I would site on the truck, and get Faraz a chubby boy to push us round the neighbourhood. Some of my other friends from school would come over on weekends and we would play dollhouse on the deck. Anjo and I had so many good times together, even sitting together on one bike, riding around the block until we both fall and got injury. I can recall one time Anjo was sleeping over at my house, and at midnight she started to cry to go home. My father had to drop her home and the next day I mocked at her a lot. My awful experience was when a boy next door stole my red truck. I was very sad, I cried and cried until my mom got it back from him.…
