Personal Narrative: My Personal Progression
My family and I grew up good portion of our lives in our native country, Bangladesh. We came to the US in the year 2006, looking to live a fullfilling life while getting a world class education to better our lives further. I started out as a 3rd grader at P.S.112 when I arrived here and my family was still looking to settle in. My family household count is at 7 and my dad works hard to provide shelter and food as no one in my family has sufficient time and skills to do any job. All my brothers including me are now in enrolled full time in college. However, paying for college was something a little hard to do even if my dad worked extra. I personally have to pay for most of basic needs such as cell phone bill, tuition, and sports team fees outside of school. The cost can rise to a lot each month, making my part …show more content…

Being able to chase my career is of great deal because it something that interests me and I plan to do it for as long as I can. I wish to discover and explore the phenomeon of space exploration and the nature of it. At the same time I look to invest myself in computer science to compliment my former career choice. However getting both of the majors coming to fruition is virtually impossible without the extra fund. I consider myself gifted in the science and math area and I believe I can accomplish my goal if given the opportunity and I receive proper funds to excel my college career. I believe that you should consider me for the scholarship is because I believe that when I am given something to work with, I always look to pay back the community that made it all possible. If I am to receive this scholarship, I will be able to fund my college major and properly get a valuable education that will allow me to reach my life goal as scientist major, allowing me to give back to the

My greatest influences are my parents and my brother. My brother suffered from Guillain- Barre Syndrome when he was eight. He lived in the hospital on an artificial ventilation for 97 days and later he had to continue physical therapy for at least ten years as he was completely paralyzed. My parents and my brother devoted their few years completely for his treatment. Today, my brother is a successful engineer working in the bay area. I learned that with dedication, determination and diligence we can achieve our dream in life…

My long term goal was to from Oklahoma State University with a BS in psychology. I wanted to achieve this goal while also enjoying my college experience by finding a balance between my social life and school work. An event that marked my transition from childhood to adulthood would be the day I moved to the United States From Dominican Republic four years ago. I was fourteen years old when my family and I decided to change our lives. My mother always wanted a better future for our family., therefore she decided this would be the best for all of us. At first it was indubitable difficult for me to become accustomed to a new country, leaving the rest of my family behind. A country where I was required to learn a new language and learn so many new things to improve not only the way I was in school but also learn how to improve myself internally. It was a challenge, but I am proud to say that even if I had atrocious days where people criticized me by reason…

One of the most significant challenges I face as an undocumented first generation college applicant is financial need. I am the first child of my family to be enrolling into a college this fall. Financially speaking my family is considered to be middle or lower-middle class. Although we make ends meet the strain of college tuition is an impending force that will soon become a large issue for my household. Likewise, the fact that I'm undocumented excludes me from many scholarships making paying for college all that more daunting. College tuition is not something that my parents have had to think about before. Yet, with the end of my high school career approaching and the start of my college career beginning it is apparent that my family will…

A major theme in my life is improvement. I challenge myself to take risks and set high expectations for myself. For instance, I strive to run faster and for longer distances every couple of times I approach the treadmill belt. I am obstinate about my minimum distance, 2.2 miles, and my minimum speed, 6.8. A major component of improving myself is learning. Every new word is a miniscule enhancement of my massive English vocabulary pool, but it is still a step in the right direction. I enjoy becoming more knowledgeable in both domestic and international affairs. I wish I could have more time to pour into reading current event and health articles. I am particularly attached to drumming the latest scientific discovery or innovate biotechnology product…

One time I took a leadership role that was the most relevant to me was when I was the leader in my robotics team in high school. I needed to take the role because everyone else seemed lost and I was the only one with previous robotics experience so I told everyone if they mid if I become the group leader and no one minded. One thing I learned about myself by being the leader is I am very good at giving people specific jobs and keeping everyone on task without them getting distracted. Another thing I learned about myself is i am a strict yet fun leader because I know when its time to stop playing around and get to…

My whole life I have been a leader, the rule maker, the boss, a take charge and a "get stuff done" type of person. These qualities I attribute to being the oldest sibling, raised by a strong mother, and a stepfather determined to raise another man’s child as best he could. I thrive in situations where I can have control and can help guide a team or myself to the best possible outcome. I apply these characteristics to nearly every aspect of my life, sometimes to a fault. After dropping out of college eight years previously, to follow my dreams of being a makeup artist, I woke up one day and decided my life need a change. Not completing school had always weighed on me over the years like an unfinished task needing to be done. So, why now, what changed? My outlook on life shifted after meeting a special little boy named Jackson.…

Honestly, I know little to nothing about the cost of college, but I have seen the toll of it from my parents. With my sister already in her junior year in a state university, they’ve told me time and time again to save water and electricity to reduce the costs of the bills. When I asked about it they listed to me all the different types of expenses they’ve had to pay for my sister: housing, tuition, food, and clothing. As a high school senior about to graduate and about to go to college, my parents had to pool their savings and what other money they have so that they can brace themselves to support me as well when I continue my education. Although it will be me in campus doing all the work, the cost itself to get me there is a heavy burden…

Now, I have two older sisters enrolled in college, luckily they receive financial aid, and my parents only contribute a small amount to their college expenses. However, I am a DACA recipient, now that the program has ended and it is inconclusive whether a new program will be created, I am uncertain if my parents or myself could pay for my tuition. Because of my DACA status, I think I have had to work twice as hard to prove that I am capable of success, and that I am in this country to pursue a prosperous future. I am dedicating my spare time into looking for scholarship opportunities and for a form of employment. I am determined to go to college, and I think my motivation and aspirations are greater than the invisible barriers that come from being undocumented. As a teenager with limited retrospective of just how pricely things are, I am just now realizing the trouble my parents have to go through in order to give us the many things we have today. I am grateful for my parents and the effort they make to raise me and my sisters, and I am glad my sisters have the experience of college because they are guiding me, and motivate me to be the best student I can…

My story beings like any other, at the moment I took my first breath on July 30th 1998 in Bilisht, Albania. I was born in a small town in the lower region of Albania where my entire family lived with my grandparents under one household. My parents soon came to the realization that the current living situation was incongruous for a new family, such as ours, to thrive. As the result, my parents chose to apply for the government program granting our family access to move into a completely new society with new laws, regulations, political aspects and that was tens of thousands of miles away. Our family, at that instant, had a struck of luck as my mother’s name was drawn for us to move to the greatest country the United States of America.…

Personal background starts off small, it changes and grows over time into something big, it grows into an identity. Walking down the hallway at school, seeing someone standing alone, my first instinct is to make conversation, compliment, or even just smile at him or her. This instinct came from someone once telling me an act so small could turn a person's entire life around. As a kid, reading encyclopedias about random topics, consumed my time. Many days were spent coming home to find an injured wild animal in my dad's arms waiting to be saved. My dad would sit outside and draw animals, trees, and anything else he saw. Nothing excited me more than trying to draw whatever my dad drew, and as good as he did. Any assignment that was handed to…

Throughout my life I have encountered many circumstances that have shaped me into the person I am today. I was born in Moroleon, Guanajuato, Mexico. I attended school in Mexico all the way to second grade. In the summer of 2006 I moved to Cumming, Georgia. It was the hardest thing to do because I left everything that I care the most about. We lived in a trailer which was not the nicest place and in the middle of the forest. I started school at the beginning of August. I had always loved school so I was so excited for the first day. I knew it was going to be hard because I would have to conquer so many obstacles on the way. At this time the only English I knew was probably counting from one to ten and some of the colors. My Father knew some…

Most teenagers do not have a clue about what they want to be when they grow up. Most young adults also do not know where their path is in life. Even some full-blown adults are still trying to figure out their purpose. I was lucky. I knew exactly where I belonged from about the time I was seven up until now, at the decently young age of nineteen. I do not see my path changing anytime soon; in fact, I know it will never change. But, I did not just wake up one day as a child and know what my path was, while that would be impressive. Defining moments in one’s life defines who they are. There were lots of things I experienced in my life that made me realize my purpose, my absolute passion. I had four of these defining moments in my short span of…
