Personal Narrative: Improving Myself

A major theme in my life is improvement. I challenge myself to take risks and set high expectations for myself. For instance, I strive to run faster and for longer distances every couple of times I approach the treadmill belt. I am obstinate about my minimum distance, 2.2 miles, and my minimum speed, 6.8. A major component of improving myself is learning. Every new word is a miniscule enhancement of my massive English vocabulary pool, but it is still a step in the right direction. I enjoy becoming more knowledgeable in both domestic and international affairs. I wish I could have more time to pour into reading current event and health articles. I am particularly attached to drumming the latest scientific discovery or innovate biotechnology product
into my head. Not surprisingly, I love exposing myself to new cultures, food, sports, animals, medicine and languages. Most of my most unforgettable experiences do not take place in my own backyard, but Los Angeles does have an incredible variety of cultures, museums and food. I sometimes have the energy to memorize esoteric snatches of trivia or learn “I love you” in six different languages just for fun, but I never intend to dabble for long. My tough goals are mostly academic. I pride myself on becoming increasingly effective at studying to match a certain teacher’s style. I am determined to work exactly the number of hours required to succeed and using the most efficient methods. By second semester I knew to read my history chapters once through while taking notes, make a separate handout of key terms, visit my three best bookmarks and then skim the review book the night before the test. Prioritization of key classes is one of my most crucial high school lessons. Lastly, improving myself includes periodically restoring my appreciation of nature. Besides lounging in my colorful backyard, I can hike in Runyon Canyon or travel to a spectacular foreign destination. Even howling for the full moon counts!
