Personal Narrative: My Second Third Meaningful Life Experience

My second third meaningful life experience was when I was talking to Dorothy one day while volunteering. As part of this conversation, I had told her about how I work as a nurse at a psychiatric based nursing home. This got her excited, because she previously worked as a psychiatric technician. Due to this, she proceeded to tell me some of her stories in regards to her time spent working. It was interesting to hear her stories, which were varied. She was able to explain each of the patients (while protecting HIPPA) and their specific conditions. I found this fascinating that she was still able to remember some of these patients even though it had been several years since she had worked. Overall, she was very knowledgeable in regards to psychiatry.
This was a meaningful experience for a few different reasons. First, since I work at a psychiatric based nursing home, I could relate to a lot of her stories. Second, her descrition of a lot of their conditions highlighted her breadth of knowledge. This got me pondering the concept of wisdom. Her experiences definitely demonstrated wisdom in this domain. Since wisdom can be defined as extensive life experience with a particular type of problem (Patrick, 2017, Intelligence Part 2 lecture), her situation was matching of this. By talking to her after learning about this concept and seeing about it in action, I was able to garner an increased understanding of what it means to be wise.
