Personal Narrative: My Thanksgiving At My Home
I was at my grandma house. Mostly every Thanksgiving my family meet there. This Thanksgiving we had it at my house. Last Thanksgiving the first thing that happened was me and my family got together. That day I got to see my favorite cousin Tre and other family members. I really missed them because now i’m in Texas and they’re in Oklahoma. When me and my family got together we all meet in the kitchen and prayed over the food. In my family they let the kids eat first so of course I had to wait. When the kids got their food I finally got to get my food and I basically put the whole meal on my plate. When I got my food I went to the den. My family members and I always laughed together and all. We played games, dance, joked around, etc.

As a Chinese-American, my family expected me to help out at the restaurant while maintaining straight A's in school. But, it wasn't easy; every day, I would report to the restaurant after school and immediately start working. Inside the kitchen, I would pack all the orders into aluminum containers, place them into a brown bag, and insert packets of sauces and utensils. Burns and cuts were common due to the terrible and tearable aluminum containers. Outside at the front desk, I would answer the seemingly endless ringing phones. In many instances, customers had to wait either on the phone or at the front desk for me to find their orders on the computer, even after they showed me where it was on the menu. During lunch hours, the pressure was even…

I come from a world where the only thing that is constant, is change. Changing states, changing houses, and changing schools. Unlike most other kids, I don't have a childhood home where I made countless memories, in fact, my earliest memories as a child all consist of cardboard moving boxes, along with unimaginably long car rides to foreign places. I don’t have a door marked to show how I've grown over the years, and I don't have a bedroom wall thick with paint covering over colors I chose as a child. Truthfully, often times when I was younger, and would see someone with these things, I was tempted to be envious and couldn't help but to think how lucky they were to have such stability. As a result of this, I spent a large portion of my childhood…

Later at night I would wait until I thought everyone was asleep, then tip-toe into the kitchen, quietly open the refrigerator and nibble crispy fried chicken and slices of apple pie. Most times I ate things cold; I couldn't risk warming anything up in the microwave. The floor would sometimes squeak as I entered the kitchen.…

After getting myself ready or shall I say ourselves, because I was with my friends, we also planned how to get to and meet at the venue. So since we came from north, south, east, west and call time was so early, we decided to stay over in one place and that was in one of my workmates and friends' uncle's house in Banawa, Cebu. Though he was not part of the running team, he still let us sleep over in his uncle's house since his uncle and family were in other country.…
