Personal Narrative: My Trip To Kansas
Cousins Camp Every other year over the summer, my grandparents from Kansas come out to Illinois. They pick up my sister and I, and also my 4 other cousins. (the younger half of the cousins) We always leave the parents at home, and that is not all! On the way to Kansas, we usually stop at an Amish store and buy 1-2 bushels of fresh Georgia peaches!! Georgia peaches are delicate, delicious, and delightful. Soon, we are on our way again. Before we know it, it is time to eat our supper. This year, we stopped at Freddy's in Kansas City. All of us cousins know when we are almost to my Grandparents farm, because in the distance we can see my Grandpas silos! When we arrived at their house, we all stepped out of the van knowing that Cousins Camp has …show more content…

One day we went to the Burlington pool and swam for 3 hours! Over the weeks timespan, we went to Burlington pool 3 times. We all had so much fun, even though every one of us got fried from the sun! My Grandma told us we all were like fish in the water! My Grandparents always try to take us to, or do things we all would enjoy. One of the biggest, and most fun things we did that week, was go tubing behind a boat! We had 2 tubes, so 4 of us could be tubing at one time. My grandparents just bought a tube that day for us to use. The one they bought was more flat like a pancake, so you had to use your muscles and lift the front end up the whole time. If you were not doing that the whole time, you would go under the water. When we were done tubing, we all ate at a picnic table close to the lake. Another thing we did that week was make our own t-shirts. My Grandma would give us the right size of shirt we needed, and we would decorate the front of it with whatever we wanted to. At the end of each, day all of us cousins took turns taking a shower. My sister would always wrap the towel around her hair and use the towel like a turban. One of my boy cousins asked her why she did that, and she told him it made her hair dry faster. Well, being the genius he is, he decided to try it for himself… he quickly found out that his short hair does not dry faster in a turban! Before my grandparents made us go downstairs and go to bed, they …show more content…

None of them were strangers to us because we have known every one of them since we were little. Throughout the whole week, we would begin to prep the food for when the big night came. My Grandpa has a nice size pond that has a bunch of catfish in it. He feeds the fish, and so one night, all of us cousins decided we really wanted to go with him. We all piled in the back of the farms truck, and headed down the gravel road and through the cow pasture to get to the pond. We all stood along the shore, ready for him to through in the food. The moment he through the food in there, the water turned white, because the catfish were flopping around in the water trying to get a mouthful of food. We brought a good size net with us, so my cousin put the net in the water and caught a fish. Later, we got in the truck again and drove down the gravel road 2 miles to my Uncle and Aunt's house. There, my Grandpa filleted the fish because we were going to use it for our meal. We cut the stomach open and saw the last meal he ate… fish food. We all looked at each other and gave a maybe-we-should-not-have-cut-it-open look. All of us cousins agreed that we wanted to act like we owned a restaurant. We came up with a theme for our meal, and we all decided that we would like to do a fishing theme. The name of our restaurant was “Cousinsville

My cousins and I would always be together, Literally 24/7. Sometimes we would fight and i look back and remember and i think it's the funniest thing in the world, we still bring our little arguments up to this day to have a real good laugh, but having so many different personalities around made my life so much fun. If we weren't outside playing with the water hose getting in trouble with our great grandmother for wasting water or playing tag or Hide And Go Seek, We’d be inside watching cartoons while our Aunts were having extremely loud Conversations in the kitchen and the Men were outside talking about football or something. My favorite memory of my childhood was when i would get to go to my grandmother's house every Saturday with my close family around to eat either Barbacoa or homemade Menudo.…

My Aunt Caprice owned a large house and a couple acres of land which my brother and I would roam anytime we visited. Every Christmas Eve my mother would drive us over to Aunt Caprice’s house to visit her family and other close family friends. My Uncle Roger would take me around the property and let me collect chicken eggs for him. This taught me the value of hard work and was a humbling experience for me in my youth. My cousins, Bryan and Brent were very close to my brother and I, we would often hang out in the backyard either jumping on the trampoline or playing video games with each other. Some of my favorite memories were spent at that house, especially on Christmas to see family or just to go over and watch Dallas Cowboys games with…

On our trip to Cedar Glen, I learned numerous things that will benefit me in the future and assist me in making crucial decisions. One of the things I learned is group dynamics and working with other people. My group participated in various activities, such as logs and marshmallows, which taught us that we shouldn’t just focus on ourselves when completing a task, but also everybody in our group. In both logs and marshmallows, our group made sure each person reached the other side instead of just themselves, which the reason why we accomplished the activity is that we worked together as a team. I also learned that in a group, there could be people who lead a task, maintain a group, or focus on themselves. In low ropes and high ropes, we learned…

A day in Memphis is not complete without the diversity in our community. As a second generation Memphian who has primarily lived in Midtown, I had the privilege of watching several different cultures in one place and especially now that I attended one of the largest public schools. Daily, I experience someone else’s world. The people I get to meet and see are from various backgrounds: race, religion, ethnicity, etc. that I may never comprehend, which is wonderful. In Memphis, it is normal to be an enigma, to have idiosyncrasies. I believe that is the heart of Memphis. What makes this heart surpass discrimination is the acceptance that follows years of diversity. My neighborhood has single mothers whose children play with the neighborhood adolescents.…

On Saturday April 13, 2013 I was walking through the parking garage on the USAA campus in San Antonio, TX to start my 4 hour work shift, I began to go through the turnstile and seemingly startled awake a bat. This bat began to fly and squeal in fear. It darted at my head getting caught in my hair a couple times. I started to scream and flail my arms about trying to fend off the nocturnal flying mammal in fear. During what seemed to be forever I was able to unlock the turnstile and exit the entry way but not before rupturing two discs in my neck. This incident caused quite the turn of events in my life. I had been working for USAA for 3 years and truly loved it there. I also lived in a beautiful apartment with my mother and two children and…
