It was a very hot day in July. My friends and I decided to go to the Mississippi River for a few days to hangout, get tan and wakeboard. The day we made our journey, it was six in the morning on a Saturday. Gross right? I mean who in their right mind would wake up on a Saturday at six in the morning!? Well… us, because we aren't in what you may call a “normal mind-set”. We aren't like the teenagers nowadays that sit in bed until three in the afternoon wasting our precious summer. We realize that there are only twenty-four hours in a day and we take full advantage of that! For us, waking up early like that is just a promise to have a long, exhilarating day. After waking up and packing everything needed, we take off for Wabasha. One long hour goes by and we finally get to the boat landing where I back in the boat. As I drive out to the main channel, I saw that the water is calm …show more content…
and people lining the beaches playing volleyball or sunbathing on innertubes. It was a glorious day to be alive!
Seeing all of the people enjoying their day made us want to get on their level. I drove off to the east side of the River (the Wisconsin side) and found twenty foot sand dunes, we got our boards from the storage compartment of the boat and sand-boarded for half an hour before the ninety degree day caught up to us. My dad and I have a small competition when we go to the River. The rules are we each get one brilliant idea a day and whoever has the best idea wins. His idea for the day was to go wake-boarding to cool off. Immediately I thought “awhh crap.. how can I top that?” I blew it off and was just going to let him win. We boarded for a solid three hours, all of us were prunes but it was well worth it. After all of that we rode the current down to the fun part of the River. On the way there I got a text from other friends asking where everyone was, I replied with “on the way”. Now we got even more people to share this amazing day with! An hour went by and we arrived at “The Dunes” as we call it. Soon after arriving I saw three boats full of friends. “Yup” I thought “this is going to be an amazing night”
While the heat started catching up with us once more, my ideas started forming.
Even my dad saw the wheels in my head turning. He asked what chaotic idea I was creating now. I gave him a little smirk and said “you'll find out!” It's about six in the afternoon now and he walks past the highest sand dune with a long piece of plastic stretching down the side. I had the genius idea to syphon water from the river up to the very top. My dad climbed to the top and slid down like the five year old he is. To be honest I was a little intimidated by my own idea! I was a little scared to go down because of my fear of heights. After contemplating for a good minute or two, I slid down and hugged my dad. He told me that I definitely won the idea competition and that made me feel great! I ended up conquering my fear of heights also, safe to say it was a win
win.
Because of my creativity, I'm not afraid of heights anymore. Now I can do even more crazy things with my friends and not be scared!! Ever since then I try to widen my comfort zone more so I can live a little more.
