Personal Narrative: My Visit To Christianity
I never thought how interesting it would be to visit a different place of worship besides Christianity. Since the day I was born I’ve been a Christian and whatever anyone else believes in is wrong and that they are going to hell if they don’t believe in Christianity. About 3 years ago I visited the International Buddhist Progress Society a Buddhist temple in Naperville. Buddhism from what I learned looks more like a way of life or guidelines to it rather than a religion. Buddhism tells you how you could live life better but doesn’t scare you with the prospect of hell instead you live with ignorance. My own history with Christianity still made me doubt or fear the conquences of going to this temple. Part of me believed that I be punished by …show more content…
What really caught my eye were the three Buddha statues where we were going to have the service. The statues looked like they were made of gold but I just thinking it was the lighting. As I entered I felt a sense of calmness it was very different than a Christian church. In a Christian church I always felt tense or felt uneasy because of all the people jumping around singing songs like some type of indigenous tribes. On the other hand going to a catholic church always made me feel guilty or depressed. Being in this temple was different I actually felt welcomed while everyone was calm and collected and not bouncing off the walls. As we entered the area where they have the service we had to sit down on these cushions and after a little bit of talking they started the meditation. We repeated nam-myoho-renge-kyo over and over with a little bit of different words mixed in during the meditation. While doing it I was constantly feeling this sense of euphoria it felt like I was in a trace with everyone joining in. honestly, it felt weird because I never had a sensation like that before and just like that it was over. An hour passed and I didn’t even notice my legs were cramped but my body felt like it was floating, I actually thought I did some black magic or something but everyone was a cheerful mood. We didn’t stay long after the service was finished but one thing I

Growing up as a Buddhist, my family and I would go to temple at least once a year to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Even though I have been going to temple, I did not even realize that there was so much I did not know about the culture until my recent visit to the Hsi Lai Temple in Hacienda Heights with my geography class.…

This experience updates my impression and knowledge about Christianity. I still remember the songs that were played in Candlewood, insightful points that given by pastor, nice people, and the loyal, sacred atmosphere. After this first time experience, I do have new aspects about Christianity, but I don’t think I have the same feeling as Christians do when I visit there again. The religious belief is formed…

This morning I attended a weekday mass at All Saints Catholic Church. The church itself is relatively large from what I saw. The exterior had many well-tended trees and bushes, with a sign pointing to the office, and a cross about six feet tall out front by a cement walkway which led to the entrance. The building itself was a taupe color with dark brown roofing and glass doors leading at the entrance. As I walked through the glass doors I was not greeted by anyone, so I followed what everyone else was doing. I noticed a holy water font in front of the doors leading directly to the room of worship. I watched as the casually-dressed Parishioners, all aged at least sixty-five years, and mostly white, middle-class women dipped their fingers into the font and then made the sign of the cross, before entering the worship area.…

Religion is one of the factors that help to maintain balance in the world. There are many religions in this world. Every religion has its own beliefs and ways of following it. Religions may vary in many aspects. While some religions may have the same beliefs, some will have the exact opposite beliefs. I come from a place where even though there are many religions found I get to observe and practice only my own religion. Even if people are open about different religions, one religion being involved in another is not acceptable for my society. This is one of the reasons why I have always been curious about other religions and their ways of following and practicing it. This is why when I got a chance to go to a Jewish Synagogue as a part of a religious service…

I'm sure everyone has wondered in their lifetime, “Is there really a God?”. I know I have! There are many religions like Buddhism and Hinduism, but most people believe in Christianity. Christianity follows the teachings and miracles of Jesus Christ with the belief that He is God. There are many branches of Christianity. I'm writing this to tell you about why I am a Nazarene Christian. The things I will be covering are wildlife, the spread of Christianity, and the planet Earth's perfect tilt.…

My experience started out pretty bad while trying to attend the Volusia Buddhist Fellowship ceremony. First of all Diego and I went to the Volusia ceremony only to find out that the place of worship was bought over by a Christian group, so there were no Buddhist worships going on at that site anymore. This was very surprising to me because I called the Fellowship just the day before to make sure I had got the proper information before hand, and they said nothing about there site being changed or bought over by another organization. Furthermore Diego and I finally found out where the new site was, after about 30 minutes of driving in vane…

Buddhism is a religion that focuses more on the individual and the actions of that individual, which was prevalent to me when I made my way into Portland and set foot in a Buddhist temple. The man I met within the walls of this temple was far from my stereotypical thoughts of Buddhist monks. The man I met looked like your plain old, average Joe, American man. Before I delve into the depths of my visit to this inspiring place, I need to sum up the Buddhist religion and why I chose to study this particular group of people.…

Accepting Jesus was by far the biggest decision I have had to make. Welcoming him into my life changed me in so many ways, for example, I had finally found myself in this huge world that was filled with nothing but sin and destruction. Basically, I was a self-destructing time bomb, but Jesus stepped in right on time for me. When Jesus started taking control of my life I was in the, "rebirth," stage of my life. The rebirth stage tore me all the way down I was nothing at that stage I was like a newborn baby all over again just in a spiritual state. Coming from a broken background, I was breaking myself down by lying, cheating, just doing everything possible that I knew I could get away with. That phase gave me consequences that I was not use…

My first experience in a Buddhist temple was quite different than anything I have experienced religion-wise. I visited the Quan Am Monastery (Vietnamese-American Buddhist) at 3500 South Goodlet. I got to experience first-hand how meditation in a Buddhist temple actually works. I was very intrigued to find out how someone outside of the Christian faith, worshipped. As one might expect, the atmosphere was very tranquil. My group members and I called ahead a few days earlier and a man answered the phone and it was very hard to understand what he saying but I know I heard him say “come on Friday so that’s what we did. When we arrived we stepped outside the vehicle we took a look around and there were two buildings outside. One that had which resembled a house and the other one looked like a temple. We took a look around and the scenery was very beautiful. We walked around taking pictures and admiring the statues and fountains. Some members of the temple walked up and greeted us and we told them why we were there. They were so sweet and welcoming. We went on the night they had the informational and we got there a little early so they allowed us to ask questions about their religion and the history behind the temples. One of the members (which was a man) told us about he became Buddhist and how his family felt about it. The informational started at 6:30 so we went inside the temple that looked like a house. We had to take our shoes off before we went inside the temple. When we walked inside the house there flowers everywhere, like big bouquets of flowers. I was taking a look around and it was so clean not a dust spot anywhere. We began to sit down and cut our phones off so there wouldn’t be any type of interruptions that would distract us from meditating. We were allowed to choose if we wanted to sit on a mat in Indian style or in a chair with our feet planted on the ground. Those whom have back problems sat in the chairs and one of those people was me. The guy that…

My keen interest I decided to visit the Wat Buddharangsi Temple of Miami which follows the ways of Theravada Buddhism. I did not expect to find it in such a remote location. The temple was completely surrounded by fields in a village like neighborhood. The location and its surroundings had the atmosphere very peaceful. A lot of trees surrounded the temple and made it feel full of life. The design of the temple was beautiful with not much color apart from the gold painted roofs and details. The building was built in a distinct “North Asian” style making it feel like you were stepping into a completely different place.…

Observe a religious practice or visit a place of religious worship or spiritual significance that is unfamiliar to you. For instance, you may visit a Buddhist or Hindu temple, a local shrine, or a Christian church. Some of the larger institutions (such as Singapore’s Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum) offer free tours, which would make for an easy point of entry. How is the space organized, what kinds of artifacts or images are displayed, and what kinds of routine practices do you observe? How do these elements reflect underlying beliefs and values?…

When I got to the Hindu Temple, I was really nervous. I did not know where to go. So, I decided to ask the first person that was next to me a couple of questions. I told her that I have never gone to a Hindu Temple and that I wanted to learn more about their culture. She was a really nice person, and she told me that attending a Hindu Temple would be a great experience for me and a good opportunity to learn how their culture is different in many ways. Before everyone entered the temple, I noticed that they all started to take their shoes off, so I did the same thing. We all placed…
