Being active in National Charity League for six years, I have had the pleasure of working with many different philanthropies, my favorite being The Tualatin School House Pantry. Operating out of the basement of a church, the food bank helps to feed families in the community who are struggling financially. While my first few experiences at the food pantry were emotionally challenging, I found them to be very eye opening. I met many people from different backgrounds, yet they all shared the same hardship, the inability to afford food for themselves and their families. Wanting to do more for the recipients, I received training to be one of the personal shoppers.…

During my 10th grade year, me and my fellow classmates volunteered for Keep Gastonia Beautiful. I got the chance to go to different parks throughout Gastonia, picking up trash and spreading out mulch on the playground. Our school actually recieved an award from Keep Gastonia Beautiful.…
Once a month, our organization, Ketchikan CPOA helps the local Salvation Army Soup Kitchen prepare meals, serve and clean up, I have dedicated three years of monthly service to helping plan, prep, and cook and serve the citizens of Ketchikan, AK who need it. This service has had a profound effect on my life. The most memorable time I can recall was my first time attending the soup kitchen. I enjoyed meeting the staff at the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen, working with my fellow Coast Guard men and women to prep the meal, and to meet the patrons who attended breakfast that day.…
During times of adversity, the Salvation Army has assisted families who have suffered losses due to fires or natural disasters. They have been instrumental in assisting low income families during the Christmas holidays by providing gifts for families through the Angel Tree project. The investment that the Salvation Army makes in our area motivated me to want to learn more about the organization. Recently, I was given the opportunity to volunteer at the Waco Salvation Army Food Pantry.…

The place that I decided to volunteer at was the St. Thomas Church Pantry. The purpose of this service is to get food to people who have fallen upon tough financial times. One business skill that this group needs to keep the food pantry running is marketing skills. One of the struggles that food pantries have is not getting enough food donations of items they need. So, the leader of the pantry must ask for donations of the items that they run low on. This also means that the volunteers at the Pantry must take inventory on food items to ensure that they will not run out of certain food items. Also, they have to have a volunteer schedule just like most businesses this is to ensure that at least two volunteers will be working during the two days of the week that the Pantry is…
The Salvation Army is not the only organization that asks for volunteers. There are many others that ask for your time to make food and pass it out. Sometimes the Salvation Army actually goes out and makes special grocery deliveries for those who can’t pick up their food. I personally have grown from this experience and intend to put in more of my time in for the coming holidays. People go hungry every day and many more struggle to eat. Until we have a better political system that distributes food better, we will continue to have many families left…
One might wonder what a fifteen-year-old was doing standing atop a thirty-yard dumpster, chainsaw in hand, and yelling, "Give me more! It can hold more!" During my ninth grade year I saw an opportunity to complete my Eagle Scout project, helping the Lenape Valley Church remove massive piles of downed pine branches fallen during an early March ice storm, creating an eyesore and complaints from the local community. The project I was tackling was Herculean, and I, compared to now, very inexperienced at leading people. But it is Boy Scout’s duty to give back to his community and I had promised that the enormous piles of branches and snow would be gone before Easter.…
Have you had any volunteer experiences and, if so, what did you like about participating? Give at least one example of what you liked. I have volunteered with Canterbury United Methodist Church on a mission trip and the Birmingham Zoo. When I volunteered with Canterbury, we went on a mission trip to Asheville, North Carolina for a week during the summer. I had the opportunity to travel to another city, in a different state, to help those who are less fortunate and live in harsh conditions. Seeing the harsh conditions that some people live in was very eye-opening for me because it really made me realize how fortunate, not only I, but the rest of my community is. I loved helping the people in Asheville because I knew that it is something they…
The second organization that I had the opportunity to volunteer for is Goodwill Rescue mission. They created this organization in 1896. Under the leadership of Rev. Lawrence Sutherland, the purpose of the organization moved from being a struggling institution to one with a nationwide reputation. They shared the love of God in Christ by providing food, shelter, spiritual guidance and instruction for the poor and the homeless in Newark. According to Goodwill Rescue mission, they affiliate with helping the individuals directly rather than send them someplace else to fend for themselves. The program is also working with some of these individuals to get them back on their feet to fend for themselves. They have to go through programs if any of them…
At eight years old, I loved watching Law and Order. I would stay up waiting for the show to come on. It was fun to watch because the detectives on the show get to go to different states to solve crime. I like how detectives get to work on the mission for a long time, and they get to sit down and talk to the family and ask them what happened and who was close to the victim. After questioning and observing, the detectives take all the information back to the lab. There, they get closer to finding the fugitive . I think that’s cool because I’d like to go looking after the person who killed the innocent victim . When I get the person I will read them their rights and send them to jury . They’ll then go to court where they will plead guilty or…
